New account
I recently made an account on blue sky, I’m gonna start uploading on there too🦋
Hey everyone! So, I finally took the plunge and opened a new account on Blue Sky (@omen13.bsky.social, if you want to follow my journey!). As you might have seen from my profile, I'm starting from scratch with 0 followers, but I'm super excited to start uploading my art there. My bio says 'Straight thuggin I like draw,' and I really do! This feels like a fresh start, and I've been thinking a lot about how to make the most of it as an artist. One of the first questions I had was, 'How do I actually grow my art presence on Blue Sky?' It's different from other platforms, and I'm learning as I go. Here are some of my initial thoughts and strategies I'm planning to try: Setting Up My Profile: I spent time on my banner (it has glowing pink stars!) and choosing an illustrated profile picture that truly represents my style. My bio, 'Straight thuggin I like draw,' is a bit quirky but it reflects me. Making your profile visually appealing and authentic is step one for any artist on a new platform. It's like your digital art gallery front! Engaging with Communities: Blue Sky has this cool feature with custom feeds. I'm actively looking for art-related feeds and artists to follow. Liking, commenting, and re-posting other artists' work is crucial for visibility and building connections. It's not just about posting your own art; it's about being part of the conversation and showing genuine interest in others' creations. Consistent Posting: I'm aiming for regular updates of my illustrations. Whether it's finished pieces, sketches, or even process shots, consistency helps keep you top of mind. I'll be using relevant hashtags like #art, #artistsoflemon8, and #blueskyapp to reach a wider audience interested in similar content. Showcasing Process: People love seeing the 'how-to' or behind-the-scenes. I plan to share snippets of my drawing process to give followers a peek into how my art comes to life. This builds a deeper connection and appreciation for the work involved. Now, let's talk about the big question: Lemon8 vs. Blue Sky for artists like me. I've been active on Lemon8, and it's fantastic for visual storytelling. On Lemon8, I find that my art thrives when it's presented beautifully within a lifestyle context or as part of a curated aesthetic. It's great for inspiration boards, step-by-step guides, or showcasing my finished pieces in a gallery-like format. Discovery often happens through trending topics and visually appealing grids. Blue Sky, on the other hand, feels more like a conversation platform. While it's visual, the emphasis seems to be more on short updates, discussions, and community interaction. For artists, this could mean: Community Building: Blue Sky might be better for direct engagement with fellow artists and art enthusiasts, finding niche groups, and having more in-depth discussions about art techniques or industry trends. The custom feeds are a game-changer for finding your people and what truly interests you. Content Type: While I'll definitely post my finished art, I also see Blue Sky as a place for quick thoughts, progress updates, and maybe even polling my audience on creative decisions. It's less about the perfectly polished carousel and more about raw, authentic interaction. Growth Potential: Both offer unique avenues. Lemon8's visual-first approach can lead to rapid exposure if your content resonates aesthetically. Blue Sky, with its smaller, more focused communities, might offer slower but deeper growth, fostering a loyal audience that truly engages with your art and process. It really depends on what kind of art community you're looking to build. Ultimately, I think both platforms have their strengths for artists. I'm excited to see how my art journey unfolds on Blue Sky and will definitely be sharing updates on how I'm navigating both platforms to grow my presence. Stay tuned for more art and insights!
