Finding True Friends & Family
I have recently experienced that when one asks family and friends for support, their true colors come out. Many people are willing to support celebrities and influencers but when it comes to someone for real, they aren't.
I am running the Sydney Marathon for a veteran's charity, Home Base. I have reached out to family and friends asking for support whether through a donation or even by simply sharing my link. It was heartbreaking to see how many of my family members and friends completely ignored me. They gave no words of encouragement, no ideas, or even a willingness to share the charity. It did hurt a bit 💔.
However, there were some family members and friends who did support me and it really meant so much. What surprised me the most however were the amount of strangers who have supported me. It speaks volumes and while it is saddening I am also beyond grateful.
Home Base is a wonderful charity that is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for Veterans of all eras. If you find it in your heart to donate I would be very grateful. The link is in my bio! Thank you! 🎄❤️

When we face challenges that require support, such as running a marathon for a meaningful cause like Home Base, the veterans' charity dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war, the responses we receive can be surprising and enlightening. It’s a common experience to feel overlooked by those closest to us, including family and friends, especially when asking for help with personal endeavors or charitable efforts. This realization reveals the true nature of relationships and support networks. Many people support high-profile figures such as celebrities and influencers; however, when the call for help comes from someone more personal and less visible, support can be scarce. This contrast often uncovers the true colors of those we expect to stand by us. While it’s heartbreaking to be ignored or left without encouragement, discovering who truly cares can strengthen bonds with those few who genuinely offer support. Interestingly, strangers and members of wider communities often provide unexpected encouragement and aid. This shows the power of shared values and causes, such as supporting veterans through Home Base. The willingness of strangers to donate or share resources demonstrates how collective empathy can transcend personal connections. Running the Sydney Marathon for Home Base not only raises funds but also awareness about the invisible wounds many veterans carry. The charity’s mission to heal these wounds through various programs makes every donation and share crucial. Whether contributing financially or spreading the word, each act of kindness helps create a compassionate community dedicated to honoring veterans. For anyone seeking support in personal causes or charitable work, it’s important to embrace vulnerability and understand that true friends and family may be fewer than expected. Nonetheless, the support of compassionate strangers and dedicated communities can inspire and drive success. Ultimately, true support transcends blood relations and showcases humanity’s capacity for kindness and solidarity, especially during times that demand courage and commitment.

I agree, It’s wild how someone you’ve never met can leave a comment, send a DM, or cheer you on and it hits differently than the people closest to you. Sometimes the ones around us forget to notice. Sometimes they doubt, judge, or get caught up in their own lives. 🫶🏻
