Desert Oasis Nursey
Go down Memory Lane with me as I look back on BeaN’s old nursery. I just finished her “big kid” room now that’s she’s 6 and I’m starting to miss her nursery.
We were in the process of saving for a house when we found out we were pregnant. And while going through the purchasing process, we got a lot of 2nd hand items. FB and Mecari became our go-tos for a good amount of her big ticket baby items to save on cost.
We then refurbished them by striping, painting, or just simply cleaning the items up. We also def purchased some items from IKEA to help fill in the gaps.
Pairing that with a cute theme made for an adorable room after we closed on our house a month and half before she was born!
Thoughts? Love it. Like it. It’s OK. Either way let me know and what themes did you use for your nursery?
Looking back at the journey of creating BeaN’s nursery really highlights how much love and creativity go into building a cozy and functional space for a baby without breaking the bank. Using platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Mercari to find secondhand baby items is a game changer. I’ve also found that with some sanding, painting, or just a good clean, many pieces can look as good as new. Plus, refurbishing adds a personal touch to the nursery that makes it feel truly unique. One key tip is to choose a cohesive theme like the Desert Oasis style, which not only feels warm and inviting but also makes decorating decisions simpler. Incorporating natural colors, desert-inspired motifs, and simple wooden accents helps maintain a serene atmosphere. Pairing these with affordable IKEA furniture pieces fills gaps nicely without overwhelming the budget. Another important aspect is planning ahead for how the nursery might evolve as your child grows. Transitioning BeaN to a "big kid" room at age 6 shows how flexible designs and sturdy, multi-use furniture pieces can adapt to new needs. It’s amazing how something that started as a nursery can transform with added creativity and small changes. If you’re thinking of setting up your own nursery, remember that it’s more about the thoughtfulness of the space than expensive decor. DIY projects, like repainting furniture or customizing storage with bins and shelves, make the room practical and personalized. This approach also has the added benefit of sustainability by recycling and reusing. In sum, creating a special nursery is less about spending a lot and more about the love you put into making a space that feels right for your baby. Sharing this journey not only helps others save money but encourages them to add their own creative flair to the space.
