ANNOTATING! A DETAILED HOW TO

HEY GUYS!! Welcome back!

I realized that a lot of you liked my post on how to annotate your books! Today we will be going into a detailed guide on the How To!!

1. 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤!

Whether you read hardbacks or paper, annotations are a great way to immerse yourself into the story and its characters!! Whether you read thick books or thin ones, grab your pens and highlighters! Lets make this Fun!!!🤩

2. 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐒!

Everyone has their own way they prefer to annotate! Not one way is right or wrong, so just have fun with it!! TABS: I like to get my tabs from Shein or Amazon, they are cheap and good quality. I go for the MORANDI brand! Tabs come in all shapes, sizes and colors!! HIGHLIGHTERS: Im very picky when it comes to my highlighters, only because I CANT STAND seeing them bleed through my pages! But you can use whatever you want!! I typically use COLORED PENCILS, as they don’t bleed!!

3. 𝐀 𝐊𝐄𝐘!

Now to make ourselves a key to remember what we are tabbing! This too, has no right or wrong, so create a key that benefits YOU! Anything from plot to things that excite you, and everything in between! The details are up to you, and the possibilities are endless!! While I stick to specific topics, such as Plot, Characters, Emotions, and whatnot, you can create your key to have ANYTHING you want!!

4. 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒!

Now while this is NOT necessary, it does make tabbing a bit more fun!! Matching colors to your cover can also help you decide what you wish to tab, and how many tabs you need! I typically use up to 6 colors at a time, only because I prefer to focus on more details within the book!

5. 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐅𝐔𝐍!

Tabbing is supposed to be fun, not tedious! Make sure to take your time and don’t get caught up in the small stuff!! Doodle! Draw! Highlight away! Whatever makes you happy, makes tabbing that much better!!!

I hope this helps!! 🥰🥰🥰

... Read moreHey fellow book lovers! If you're anything like me, you've probably seen all those beautiful, extensively annotated books online and wondered, "How do they do that?" Beyond just marking up pages, annotating has completely transformed my reading experience, turning passive reading into an active, engaging conversation with the text. It's not just about pretty pages; it's about deeper understanding and connection. Let’s dive a little deeper into making your annotation key truly work for you. While the article mentioned general categories like plot, characters, and emotions, I’ve found that getting more specific can be incredibly helpful. For instance, for *plot*, you could have sub-categories: one color for foreshadowing, another for major plot twists, and perhaps a symbol for questions you have about the story's direction. For *characters*, you might use different tab shapes or colors for character development, significant dialogue, or internal monologues. Poetry, for example, might benefit from specific notations for imagery, metaphors, or rhyme schemes. Your key isn't set in stone; it should evolve as your reading habits and preferences change. Don't be afraid to experiment with new categories or symbols for your handwritten notes – that's part of the fun of creating truly personalized annotated books! Regarding supplies, expanding your annotation arsenal can make a big difference. While colored pencils are great for avoiding bleed-through, if you prefer highlighters, consider gel highlighters. They glide smoothly, don't bleed, and won't dry out like traditional felt-tip ones. For sticky notes and tabs, think about transparency. Transparent sticky notes allow you to write directly over text without obscuring it, perfect for quick insights or questions. Different sizes of tabs are also super useful: smaller, narrower ones for simple page marking, and wider ones for short notes or categorizing sections. When collecting these colorful tabs, remember the goal is functionality alongside aesthetics – you want to easily find the information you’ve marked. Exploring these different methods of book annotation can really elevate your practice. Finally, what happens after you’ve created your extensively annotated book? Don't let all that hard work go to waste! I've started a habit of revisiting my annotations a week or two after finishing a book. This helps solidify my understanding, especially for complex narratives or non-fiction. Sometimes, I’ll even transfer key insights or favorite quotes from my handwritten notes into a reading journal. This process turns my annotated books into valuable resources for reflection, discussion, or even creative writing. It's all about making your reading journey more interactive and meaningful. Remember, there's no right or wrong way to annotate; the best method is the one that brings you the most joy and helps you connect with your books on a deeper level. Happy annotating!

You can use a highlighter, like for the Bible, that doesn’t bleed through the pages
