... Read moreHey everyone! I recently embarked on a major closet cleanout journey, and let me tell you, it was overdue! If your wardrobe feels overwhelming and you're dreaming of a more organized, functional space, these closet cleanout tips are for you. I know it can feel daunting, but trust me, the results are so worth it. First things first: Set the Mood & Get Prepared. Put on some music, grab a refreshing drink, and clear your bed or floor space – you're going to need room to sort! I always start by pulling everything out of my closet and drawers. Yes, everything! It helps you visualize the sheer volume and allows you to start with a blank slate. Next, the big sort: The 'Keep, Donate, Sell, Toss' Method. This is where the magic happens. Pick up each item and ask yourself: Do I love it? Does it make me feel good when I wear it? Does it fit? Be honest with yourself about sizing. Have I worn it in the last year? (Exceptions for occasion wear, but be strict!) Does it align with my current style or the style I'm trying to rebrand towards? For items you're letting go of: Donate: Clothes in good condition that you no longer want. Local charities, thrift stores, or even clothing drives are great options. Sell: Designer items, trending pieces, or hardly-worn clothes can fetch a good price on apps like Poshmark or Depop. I've made back a good amount to fund new, more intentional purchases! Toss: Anything stained, ripped beyond repair, or incredibly worn out. Be realistic – if you wouldn't buy it in that condition, don't keep it. Don't Forget Sentimental Items: This is often the hardest part! I've found it helpful to assign a small, designated box for truly sentimental items. You don't need to keep every concert t-shirt from high school, but one or two special pieces can be preserved without cluttering your daily wardrobe. Once you've sorted, it's time to Reorganize & Rebrand Your Space. Before putting anything back, give your closet a good wipe down. Then, think about how you want your new wardrobe to function. I like to group similar items together (e.g., all tops, all pants), and then color-coordinate within those categories. This makes it so much easier to find things and assemble outfits. Consider investing in slim hangers to maximize space, or drawer dividers for smaller items. For a true wardrobe rebranding, take stock of what you've kept. Do you see a cohesive style emerging? What pieces are missing to complete outfits? This isn't about buying a whole new wardrobe, but rather filling intentional gaps with versatile pieces that truly reflect your desired aesthetic. Finally, Maintaining Your Clean Closet. This is key! Try to put clothes away properly after each wear. Do a mini-declutter every season. And before you buy anything new, ask yourself if it fits into your curated collection. These closet cleanout tips have genuinely changed how I approach my personal style and daily routine. I hope they help you too!
