Located at 105 degrees East longitude and 40 degrees North latitude, the Albus region is home to an important native goat species, which can reach as high as 50 degrees Celsius between day and night in winter. The Ordos Plateau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is home to one of the rarest sheep species in the world, the Arbus young goat. The Arbus young goat mainly lives in the three flag zones of the western Ordos Plateau: the Otog Banner, the Otog Front Banner, and the Hanjin Banner. The Arbus Sum area of the Otog Banner is a major producer of cashmere due to its rich natural environment with the Arbus Mountains in the west, vast natural pastures in the center, and desert steppe in the south. The semi-arid steppe climate provides optimal conditions for livestock farming.
The fur is pure white and has a two-layered structure. The outside is rough, long and shiny, which provides good protection for the undercoat. The inside is soft and fine down. The fineness, length and density of the down fibers are important indicators of the quality and yield of cashmere. Albus White Cashmere Goats have smaller secondary follicles than regular goats due to their unique genetic makeup and unparalleled superiority, producing ultra-fine hair with an average thickness of 13-15 μm and an astonishing 14.5 μm. The pure cashmere yield is over 55% and boasts a unique cashmere quality that is unparalleled in the world. In 1988, the government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region named the goat "Inner Mongolia White Cashmere Goat Albus Species," and in 2001, it was designated as a first-class protected species in the National Animal Genetic Resources Protection Inventory of the Ministry of Agriculture.
