✧.☽˚｡✧my low to no cost fall activities★༄ *
1. change my digital themes 🍂
This is something I do just after putting my decorations up because it is such a relaxing fall activity that usually calls for a snack, a show, and my bed (an essential fall time combo imo)! Usually, I will have changed my phone’s homescreen before anything else because it’s a little more straightforward, but with my computer I have to get a little creative with sizing and placement of images I find on pinterests, captions and quotes, and the overall vibe I want to go for. More times than not I lean to a darker or grimmer halloween/fall vibe rather than the gilmore girls aesthetic because it feels a lot more nostalgic to me, but don’t get me wrong I am not a horror halloween person as you will see (or have seen) from my very kiddy watch list.
2. create a month-long watch list 🍂
So, I screenshotted calendars from an instagram ad and with canva I was able to personalize them and include the shows I wanted to watch this season. Granted I haven’t strictly stuck to the schedule for september because I am in school and study ALOT, but that isn’t the focal point of the activity. For me, it was really about reflecting on the fall media I could try to get into or revisit this season and also having something handy when I’m looking for something to watch when I can find time for it.
3. decorating with old decor 🍂
Decor will forever be in the top 3 if not the top thing that enjoy most about this season, and I have to say that the more vintage and creepier (not horror) the better! However, this doesn’t mean I need to go out and splurge on items that radiate that vibe! Luckily the trendier halloween aesthetics ( pink or purple halloween, ghost everything, super cutesy etc.) did not catch my eye and so in the past I purchased more classic themed halloween decorations that I still love now. This is not to say I haven’t fallen for a fall trend or two. For example, the pillow shaped pumpkin that blew up on instagram and tiktok back in 2021/2022 definitely influenced me to hunt around HomeGoods for two weeks looking to purchase one and I did find one I really loved. I still love this pillow (featured in my carousel) and can’t wait to pull it out every year!
4. scrapbooking 🍂
This is a hobby that I have been wanting to commit more time to and be more intentional with, however, in place of physical scrapbooking I like to do it digitally. So, say for instance I’ll draft something on a google docs or make a pinterest board of pictures I’d one day like to use in the physical scrapbook which I have also included in the carousel above:)
5. fall doomscrolling 🍂
For this one I actually have my own fall doomscrolling folder on instagram that is a collection of reels and posts I frequently revisit to get that “spooky feeling” and also to see others showing admiration for this time of the year!!
6. putting on a fall inspired outfit 🍂
Even though we are in september, I have only experienced one cool autumn day so far, but this fact has yet to stop me from coming up with fall inspo outfits. For example, I personally feel that bootcut pants or bellbottoms scream early 2000s fall and so I threw on a very old pair with a tshirt and sneakers and I didn’t burn up and still felt a pretty festive :)
*tip: use earth tones and staples that never go out of style that are still in your closet (blue jean jacket, bell bottoms, basic long sleeves, etc)
7. listening to autumn playlists 🍂
For this last item of mine (even though I can think of a million more) I truly have say that it is a guaranteed way to get into the spooky spirit! And when I say autumn playlists I don’t just mean music; I’m talking youtube as well! I have created my own “Romantizing Autumn” playlist that includes youtube videos from creators who give amazing tips on how to have a low to no cost festive season this year, a few music playlists (some ambience others lyrical), and a couple of tv vintage halloween wallpaper videos that you can have going in your home as decor! I plan to add more to it as the season goes on to keep that fall feeling going:)
