Come with me for my Night Shift✨
I work full time being a Unarmed Security Guard and it’s one of the most easiest jobs I have ever had ! All I do is watch the cameras and make badges whoever needs one and that’s barely! It really help me get my college work done also because I always bring my ipad and macbook to keep me company!
So many people are curious about what it's really like to work a night shift, especially as a security guard! While my post mentioned how surprisingly easy it can be, there's definitely a unique rhythm to working through the quiet hours. It’s not just about watching camera feeds; it’s about mastering your routine and making the most of that precious downtime. For instance, my shifts often start late, like that 10:53 PM CT start time, and don't wrap up until the sun is coming up around 7 AM. That's a solid stretch! You might think it's just endless boredom, but honestly, it can be incredibly peaceful. The facility is usually empty, which means fewer interruptions and a calmer atmosphere than a daytime shift. This quiet environment is a huge reason why I find it so easy to focus on my college work. Having my iPad and MacBook with me is a game-changer; I can toggle between keeping an eye on the multiple security camera feeds and diving deep into my textbooks or writing essays. Sometimes, when things are truly calm, I even catch up on some anime! But it’s not all smooth sailing. The biggest challenge is definitely adjusting your sleep schedule. You have to be super disciplined about getting quality sleep during the day so you're alert and aware when it matters most. My trick is to create a dark, cool sleep environment and stick to a consistent sleep-wake time even on my days off. This helps trick my body into staying on a 'night' schedule. Another thing to consider for night shift security is staying engaged. Even if it's an easy post, vigilance is key. I make sure to take short breaks to walk around, stretch, and grab a healthy snack to keep my energy up. Coffee is definitely a friend, but don't overdo it! Hydration is just as important. I also keep a small rotation of podcasts or audiobooks ready for when I need a mental refresh but can't stare at a screen. What should you pack for a night shift? Beyond your security guard uniform, definitely bring comfort! A good water bottle, healthy snacks (to avoid the vending machine temptation!), and your chosen entertainment or study materials are essential. Don't forget a charger for your devices! Even though it's an 'unarmed' position, always be aware of your surroundings and know your protocols for reporting anything unusual. It's about being the eyes and ears, ensuring everything runs smoothly until the daytime crew arrives. Overall, working night shift security has been an amazing opportunity for me to earn a living while still making progress on my education. It takes a bit of planning and discipline, but if you're someone who thrives in quiet environments and can manage an alternative schedule, it could be a fantastic gig for you too!
