Overwatch drives in a nutshell
Okay, so if you've been playing Overwatch for a while, you've probably heard the term 'Overwatch drives' thrown around, and maybe even seen it in chat or forums. It’s not an official game mechanic, but it perfectly encapsulates those intense, often frustrating, sometimes exhilarating experiences we all go through in our matches. For me, 'drives' often refers to those moments where a game feels like it's spiraling out of control, or when you just can't seem to click with your team. It's that feeling of, 'How did Overwatch drives go?' – usually followed by a sigh! What exactly are these 'drives'? Think of them as the emotional and strategic currents that pull a match in one direction or another. Sometimes it's a fantastic winning streak where everyone's on the same page, healers are clutch, and DPS are hitting their shots. Other times, it's a frustrating losing streak, or a game where one particular player's actions (or inaction) completely dictates the flow. Those are the 'drives' that can make you want to instantly 'AVOID AS TEAMMATE' them after the match! Dealing with these 'drives,' especially the negative ones, is a huge part of staying sane in competitive Overwatch. I've learned that one of the most powerful tools at your disposal is the 'Avoid as Teammate' feature. If you have a particularly rough game with someone, whether they were genuinely disruptive or just had a totally different playstyle that clashed with yours, this option is a lifesaver. You can simply go to their 'VIEW PROFILE' after a match, or even from the scoreboard, and select 'AVOID AS TEAMMATE'. This prevents you from being matched with them on your team for a set period. Just remember that the avoidance has an 'EXPIRATION' date, so sometimes you might need to 'RESET AVOID EXPIRATION' if you encounter them again and the issue persists. Beyond avoiding, sometimes the best strategy during a heated 'drive' is to manage communication. If someone is being overtly negative or distracting, don't hesitate to use the 'MUTE VOICE' or 'MUTE TEXT AND HERO COMMS' options. It's about protecting your own mental space so you can focus on the game. I've found that sometimes just muting a chatty or critical player can instantly improve my focus and enjoyment, turning a potential 'DEFEAT' into a closer game, or at least a less stressful one. It's not all doom and gloom, though! Sometimes 'drives' are about incredible comebacks, especially during 'OVERTIME' where every second counts. Those are the moments that truly make Overwatch special. Understanding these 'drives' – both good and bad – helps you anticipate game flow and adapt. So next time you're in a match, pay attention to the 'drives' and use the tools the game gives you to make your experience better, whether it's avoiding a clash or simply muting distractions. It's all about making your Overwatch journey more enjoyable!
