Four things we spent on our reno 💸💸💸

... Read moreWhen renovating a move-in condition resale unit, it's easy to underestimate the costs and effort involved. Although the unit is livable, upgrades like carpentry, plastering, and ceiling work significantly impact the final feel and functionality of the home. From experience, investing in quality carpentry—like custom cabinets or entryway furnishings—can add both style and practical storage. In our case, the entryway carpentry alone was $4,000, but it created a welcomed first impression that set the tone. Replacing countertops is another important upgrade. Besides improving aesthetics, new countertops allow for better sink installations and match the overall design theme. We spent about $2,200 here after dismantling the old surfaces. Older homes often have rough wall textures requiring plastering to smooth surfaces for painting, which is often overlooked. We learned that a $1,500 plastering project made a big difference in freshness and quality, especially since the original walls were quite worn. Lastly, installing a false ceiling, particularly in living and dining areas, helped unify the space and reduce visual clutter. At $2,600, the ceiling update wasn’t cheap but dramatically improved our comfort and ambiance. Overall, while buying a move-in ready resale avoids major structural work, budgeting for these refinements ensures the home truly feels like yours. Sharing these insights might help you prepare and avoid surprise expenses during your renovation journey.

🥵 Ventilation matters so much more than we thought.
As first-time homeowners, we spent so much time choosing tiles, laminates that we barely thought about airflow. It is one of those things you only truly appreciate after living in the space.   We grew up with the windows and doors open almost all the time, so good ventilation was something we nev
