🤔I hate Gas station Restrooms

... Read moreWe've all been there: desperately needing a pit stop, pulling into a gas station, and then bracing ourselves for what lies inside the restroom. It's almost a universal dread, isn't it? I’ve lost count of the times I’ve opened a restroom door, only to be met with a sight that makes me question humanity. It's more than just an inconvenience; it's a real issue for travelers, especially for women. So, why are gas station bathrooms so gross? It's a question that plagues many of us. Part of the problem is undoubtedly the sheer volume of traffic. These are high-turnover spaces, used by hundreds of people daily, often in a hurry. When a restroom is in constant use, it needs constant cleaning, which unfortunately doesn't always happen. I often see signs like the one I recently spotted: 'We Care About Our Customers. It is our policy to keep this restroom clean and well stocked. Please notify the associate on duty if you find this restroom unsatisfactory.' While the intention is good, the reality often falls short, making you wonder if anyone ever actually checks or if reporting helps. Another significant factor is the lack of proper maintenance and attention. Many gas stations prioritize fuel and convenience store sales over restroom upkeep. Cleaning schedules might be infrequent, or staff might be overwhelmed. Then there's the user aspect. Sadly, not everyone treats public spaces with respect. From overflowing trash bins to unsanitary toilet habits, a collective lack of consideration contributes heavily to the 'gross' factor. For women, the challenges are often compounded. The need for a clean, private space is paramount, and finding a toilet without a seat, or a stall with a broken lock, just adds to the frustration. It’s not just about the mess; it’s about hygiene and feeling safe. A dirty restroom can harbor germs and make you feel vulnerable. I’ve learned to prepare myself for the worst: always carry hand sanitizer, tissues, and maybe even a small pack of disinfectant wipes. Before a long trip, I’ll often check apps or online reviews for gas stations known for cleaner facilities. Sometimes, opting for a larger travel center or a specific chain can make a difference. It’s a sad reality that we have to strategize for something as basic as a clean bathroom, but it's part of navigating life on the road. What are your worst gas station restroom horror stories or your best tips for surviving them?
