... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my recent post about loving my new faux locs, I wanted to dive a little deeper into my experience, especially since many of you often wonder about the 'What I Asked For vs. What I Got' reality with protective styles. It’s always a little nerve-wracking to try a new look, right? For a while now, I’ve been obsessed with the natural, effortless vibe of faux locs. I spent weeks scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram, saving countless 'faux locs styles' that caught my eye. I loved how versatile they looked – from bohemian goddess locs to more sleek, uniformed styles. My main goal was a protective style that would give my natural hair a break while still making me feel chic and put-together. I showed my stylist a few specific pictures, emphasizing the length and the slightly textured, lived-in look I was hoping for. I definitely had a clear vision of 'What I Asked For.' And honestly, 'What I Got' exceeded my expectations! The process itself took a few hours, but it was totally worth it. My stylist perfectly captured the essence of the inspiration photos. The locs feel lightweight, and the color blend is just beautiful. If you're considering faux locs, my biggest tip is to communicate clearly with your stylist and bring plenty of reference photos. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions about the type of hair they use, as that can really impact the final look and feel. Now that I've had them for a bit, I've learned a few things about maintenance. To keep my faux locs looking fresh, I make sure to moisturize my scalp regularly with a lightweight oil – I usually do this every 2-3 days. Sleeping with a satin bonnet or pillowcase is a must to prevent frizz and keep them neat. I also avoid washing them too frequently to maintain their longevity, opting for a diluted scalp cleanse when needed. For styling, I've found that simple half-up, half-down looks, or a cute high bun, work wonders. They're surprisingly versatile! One thing I love about faux locs is how long they last, usually anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how well you care for them. It’s such a relief not to worry about daily hair styling. Plus, they really protect your natural hair from environmental damage and manipulation. If you're looking for a low-maintenance yet stylish protective option, I can't recommend faux locs enough.
