#gettoknowme I’m Lo Lo….a former Foster Parent, turned Adoptive Parent but now a Foster Care Advocate for youths that are aging-out at 18. Just starting a nonprofit foundation to house and provide onsite work training for aging-out young adults. They can live independently, while continuing to learn, be nurtured and guided to a great start at adult life.
Will you show your support by buying one of our support ribbons?
... Read moreIt’s truly a passion project that started from my own experiences as a foster and then adoptive parent. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible resilience of these young people, but also the daunting challenges they face when they turn 18 and are expected to navigate adulthood completely on their own. That's why the Be Jolley Foundation is so incredibly important to me, and why I believe it can make such a profound difference.
Imagine turning 18 with no family, no stable home, and little to no practical skills for employment or independent living. This is the reality for thousands of Foster Care Teens each year as they 'age out' of the system. The statistics are heartbreaking: many face homelessness, unemployment, and a lack of support networks that most of us take for granted. This isn't just a number; these are young people with dreams, potential, and an urgent need for a safety net.
Our Work & Life Program is designed to be that safety net and so much more. It's not just about providing a roof over their heads, though stable housing is absolutely foundational. We're creating a nurturing environment where these young adults can continue to grow, learn, and truly thrive. The program will offer onsite vocational training, equipping them with practical skills that are in demand, giving them a real pathway to sustainable employment. Think culinary arts, basic IT skills, trades, and administrative support – skills that build confidence and independence.
But it goes beyond job training. The 'Life' aspect of our program is equally crucial. We'll be providing essential life skills workshops: budgeting, financial literacy, healthy cooking, navigating public transport, understanding healthcare – all the things many of us learn from our families. One-on-one mentorship will be a cornerstone, connecting them with supportive adults who can offer guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear. We want them to feel valued, seen, and supported as they transition into independent adult life.
The vision for the Be Jolley Foundation is to break the cycle of instability that often follows aging-out youth. We want to empower them to become self-sufficient, confident, and contributing members of our community. Every single step, every small victory, will be celebrated.
You might be wondering how you can help bring this vision to life. Of course, purchasing one of our vibrant awareness ribbons is a wonderful way to show your support and spread the word about our mission. Each ribbon represents a lifeline for these young adults. Beyond that, we welcome volunteers who can share their skills, mentor a young person, or help with program activities. Financial contributions, no matter the size, directly impact our ability to provide housing, training materials, and essential resources. Even simply sharing our story and spreading awareness about the challenges faced by aging-out foster youth makes a huge difference. Together, we can ensure these amazing young individuals get the strong, independent start they deserve.
