Start this on January 1st✨
Your sign to start keeping a 1-second video diary every day in 2024.
Why?:
🫶 It helps keep perspective and reminds you that there is something good in even the worst days
⏰ Reflection helps make time go by slower. And we know how fast life seems to fly by.
🥳 It’s a fun way to look back every month and at the end of the year. When you watch it back you’ll probably say, “Wow. So much happened. I forgot.”
1️⃣ 1 second is just enough time to hear, see, and remember what happened in that moment. It doesn’t require you to dedicate time to daily writing. It’s fast and easy, yet meaningful. It’s something you can’t capture with a standard diary.
We hope you give it a try!
Starting a 1-second video diary in 2024 has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for capturing memories and reflecting on my life. Like many of you, I was initially skeptical, but after 6 years of consistently filming small snippets of my life, I can confidently say it's profoundly rewarding. It's a simple habit that brings so much perspective, reminding me that beauty can be found in every day, no matter how ordinary or challenging. One of the most common questions I get asked is about the "1 second everyday timeline view" – how do you actually organize and watch all these clips? For me, the magic truly happens when I compile them. There are dedicated apps like '1 Second Everyday' that make this incredibly easy. They allow you to select one second from a video you took each day and automatically stitch them together into a continuous movie. This creates a powerful timeline view of your year, or even several years, allowing you to visually relive your journey. I love that at the end of every month, I watch the 1 second videos I film of my life. It's a quick, powerful dose of nostalgia and gratitude. Some people prefer to use simple video editing software to manually compile their clips, creating themed compilations or longer monthly recaps. The key is finding a system that works for you, whether it's an app that does all the heavy lifting or a more hands-on approach. Another big question is how to "keep going 1st year" – because let's be honest, starting a new habit is easy, but sticking to it is the real challenge! My secret to maintaining this habit for 6 years is consistency over perfection. Here are a few tips I've picked up: Don't Overthink It: The biggest hurdle is often the pressure to capture something epic. Don't! Your 1 second doesn't have to be groundbreaking. It could be your morning coffee, a pet sleeping, a glimpse of the sky, or your hand drawing something. The goal is to capture *a* moment, any moment, to mark the day. Set Daily Reminders: I've found that a simple daily reminder on my phone is a lifesaver. It pops up in the late afternoon, prompting me to think, "What was my second for today?" Keep Your Phone Handy: Since most of us use our phones for this, ensure it's charged and accessible. Spontaneity is key. You never know when a perfect 'second' will present itself. Embrace the Mundane: Some days nothing exciting happens. That's okay! Capturing the quiet, everyday moments makes the highlights stand out even more. These often become the most nostalgic clips. Focus on the 'Why': When motivation wanes, remember why you started. For me, it's about preserving memories, gaining perspective, and slowing down time. The reward of watching your year unfold is incredibly motivating. It's Okay to Miss a Day: Don't let a missed day derail your entire project. Just pick it up the next day. A few gaps in your timeline won't diminish the overall experience. The first year is definitely the one where you'll build the habit, but it's also the most rewarding when you finally get to see that full year compiled. It's a beautiful, personal film of my life that I cherish. I truly hope you give this meaningful practice a try in 2024!
