... Read moreMy second trip to Devil's Lake was just as magical as the first, reminding me why this Wisconsin gem is a must-visit for any hiking enthusiast! You know that feeling when you're on a trail, and every turn brings a new, jaw-dropping view? That's Devil's Lake for you. It's truly a scenic place with endless opportunities for incredible pics, whether you're capturing the vastness of the lake framed by forested hills or a close-up of a clear stream flowing over smooth rocks. Speaking of challenges, if you're like me and love a good workout with your views, you're in for a treat. My hiking buddy and I chose a trail we thought we knew well, but those stairs? They always get you! It was a real glute-burner, but the feeling of accomplishment when you reach a high vantage point and take in that panoramic view is simply unbeatable. Don't forget sturdy hiking boots with good grip, especially for those sections with exposed rocks and dirt paths. Trust me, your feet will thank you! Beyond the stunning landscapes, the wildlife at Devil's Lake is truly captivating. On this trip, we were lucky enough to spot a snapping turtle partially submerged in the water, quite a unique sight! Keep your eyes peeled, as you might also encounter deer, various birds, and other small creatures along the way. It adds such an exciting element to the hike, making it feel like a true immersion in nature. For those planning a visit, I'd highly recommend bringing plenty of water, especially if you're tackling some of the longer or more strenuous trails like the East or West Bluff. Pack some snacks too – those stairs really build up an appetite! There are plenty of spots to stop for a rest and refuel while soaking in the beauty of the calm lake below. Whether you're looking for an intense fitness challenge or just a leisurely stroll amidst lush green trees, Devil's Lake has something for everyone. It’s an unforgettable experience that combines physical activity with breathtaking natural beauty, making it one of my favorite hiking destinations.
