Vermont’s design prominently features the words “Green Mountain State,” reflecting the region’s stunning natural landscape, which is a nice touch. The slate gray color of the plate ties to the slogan, giving it a subtle but meaningful look. However, I found the design quite basic compared to other states’ plates, lacking vibrant visuals or iconic symbols that might better capture Vermont’s character. One thing that stands out is how the state integrates local geographic features—rivers like the Connecticut, Winooski, and icons of places like Burlington and Rutland. A more creative license plate might incorporate stylized versions of these landmarks or Vermont’s renowned fall foliage to make the design pop and create a stronger identity. In my experience, license plates can be an underestimated aspect of a state’s branding. While the Vermont plate scores a modest 5 out of 10 in this review, its simplicity could appeal to those who prefer subtlety and tradition. Still, a refreshed design with more visual elements could make it more appealing and memorable for residents and visitors alike, potentially boosting state pride and tourism.
