HOW TO BUDGET FOR BEGINNERS

Hey y’all!

Saving money has honestly become one of my many favorite things lately. It’s made such a difference in my life, and I know a lot of people want to get better with their finances too — so I wanted to share some easy budgeting tips!

One of the biggest things that helped me was following the 50/30/20 Rule.

It’s a super simple way to break down your paycheck:

• 50% goes to your Needs (like rent, bills, groceries, and gas)

• 30% goes to your Wants (hair, nails, shopping, fun stuff)

• 20% goes straight into Savings (preferably into a high-yield savings account so your money grows faster!)

If you’re picking up extra side hustles or doing freelance work, definitely peek at the third picture! It shows a little cheat sheet for how much you should save monthly depending on your goal.

I used this method back when I was doing things like waitressing and would stash a set amount away each month — and trust me, it adds up way faster than you think!

... Read moreBudgeting can seem daunting, but with a few simple strategies, anyone can take control of their finances. The 50/30/20 rule is a popular approach that helps you allocate your income effectively: 50% for essentials (needs), 30% for luxuries (wants), and 20% for savings. This method simplifies financial planning and ensures you live within your means while setting aside future savings. When budgeting, start by tracking your expenses and income for a month. Doing so gives you a clear view of your spending habits. Once you understand your expenditures, categorize them into needs and wants. This classification can help identify areas to cut back. For example, subscriptions and dining out might be adjusted to enhance your savings. Additionally, creating a savings chart can visualize your goals. You can set monthly savings targets according to your objectives, whether that’s building an emergency fund, investing for retirement, or saving for a big purchase like a home. Many people find it helpful to automate these savings, routing a specific amount each month into a high-yield savings account. This makes saving easier and allows your money to grow faster due to compound interest. Moreover, consider picking up side hustles if your budget feels tight. Additional income can empower you to stick to your budget while allowing for more savings. Remember, budgeting is a skill that improves with practice — embrace it, and watch your financial stability grow!
