Disney Birthday Trip? The excitement and price tag
Next year, my son is turning 9, and for the first time since he started school, his birthday falls on spring break! I’ve always dreamed of taking him to Disney World, but I wanted him to be old enough to actually remember the experience. It feels like the perfect time to finally make it happen, and I couldn’t be more excited… but wow, the cost of planning this trip has been an eye-opener.
Why Disney?
Disney has always held a special place in my heart. The last time I went was when I was 10 years old, and the memories of that trip are still vivid. Funny enough, I only recently learned that we didn’t go to all the Disney parks back then because of the cost! We visited Universal Studios, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.
Now, as I plan this trip for my son, I’m facing a similar situation. I had initially hoped to take him to all four Disney parks, but after seeing the ticket prices, I realized that’s just not possible. For me and my son to enter the parks for four days, it would cost around $1,200—just for tickets. Honestly, writing that brings me to tears.
I’ve come to the realization that we’ll visit just two parks and spend the rest of our time exploring our resort or checking out other attractions in the area. While it’s disappointing, I know it’ll still be a magical experience.
Adjusting Plans to Make it Work
Flights to Orlando are expensive too, but since we’re less than 12 hours away by car, I’m planning to drive. I’ve been setting aside $500 each month to save for this trip, which has been helpful, but it still feels overwhelming to see how quickly the costs add up.
We’ll be staying at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Disney Resort. It’s offsite but still considered a Disney Resort, so we’re hoping it gives us some of that Disney magic without the premium price tag.

I’ve also been watching TikToks to find freebies and tips once we’re in the parks, like getting free celebration buttons or finding the best spots for parades and fireworks.
Splurging on Memories
The one thing I know I’ll splurge on is the PhotoPass option. I can’t wait to have those professional photos taken throughout the parks—on rides, near the castle, everywhere! These pictures will be such a special way to remember this trip, especially since it’s for my son’s birthday!
The Excitement and Emotion
I have to admit, the cost of Disney has taken away some of the initial excitement for me. But what keeps me going is knowing how happy this trip will make my son. He loves slow rides with cool visuals, so I think he’ll enjoy attractions like “It’s a Small World” and other immersive experiences. He’s also a fan of activities like bungee trampolines, so I’m trying to find something like that to include in the trip.
At the end of the day, seeing his genuine happiness will make it all worth it.
