Sweep picking arpeggios
Sweep Picking is a technique in which the guitarist quickly sweeps several guitar strings in a single direction (up or down) to play notes in an Arpeggio pattern, which is to play notes in quick chords one by one, creating a fluid, continuous sound like a cascade of notes. Unlike Alternate Picking, which alternately bounces up and down every note. Sweep Picking allows for rapid and smoother arpaggio playing, suitable for rock, metal and jazz fusion styles, especially in solos that require speed and speed.
The centerpiece of this technique is precisely the coordination between the two hands. The ejection hand must sweep the pick on the strings spontaneously and control the direction well without the sound of the other strings mingling. The hand that presses the fret must also change its position and raise its finger to immediately stop the sound of the strings already played, so that each note is clear and does not strike each other.
Tips to practice Sweep Pickings:
• Start from slowly and emphasize accuracy: It is very important to start at a slow speed and use metronome. Emphasize each note to be clear and continuous. Don't just speed up if it's not accurate yet.
• Line Mute: Unwanted Line Mute is the heart of Sweep Picking. You need to learn to use your fingers to press the strings and strum your hands to help with mute. So that no noise or note noise will hit each other.
• Coordinate both hands: Train the hand that presses the fret and the ejection hand to work perfectly together. The hand that presses the fret must drop the finger and lift off as soon as the note is finished playing while the ejection hand continues to sweep.
• Arpaggio patterns: Understand and recognize the patterns of the various arpaggios on the guitar neck, so that finger movements are spontaneous.
• Use Clean Tone in Training: Avoid using Overdrive or Distortion effects during the early stages of training, so that errors and unclean sounds are clearly heard.
• Practice in different ways: Start with a 2-3-string Sweep Picking and gradually increase to 4-5-6 strings or blend with Hammer-on and Pull-off.
