Thanksgiving ideas on how I’ve made my juicy and savory turkeys over the years.
Bacon-Wrapped Turkey
Meat
1 1/2 lbs Bacon, thick-cut
1 Large (12-15 pounds) turkey
Canned Goods
1-2 cup Chicken broth for basting (optional)
Bake 400-425 degrees covered with foil.
Reduce 325-350 degrees to get the bacon to crisp remove foil.
First, wash and clean your turkey thoroughly. Then, generously butter the turkey. Next, add your preferred seasonings and wrap the turkey in any flavor bacon, preferably applewood bacon. I also like to add chopped apples and vegetables inside the turkey.
When baking in the oven, make sure to cover the bacon with foil. You’ll need to baste the turkey constantly throughout the cooking process to keep it moist and flavorful. This process is make sure you don’t burn the bacon.
Preparing a bacon-wrapped turkey is a fantastic way to enhance the traditional Thanksgiving bird with an extra layer of smoky, savory flavor. Wrapping your turkey in thick-cut bacon, especially applewood bacon, not only adds delicious taste but also helps keep the meat moist during cooking. When wrapping the turkey, make sure the bacon strips overlap slightly and fully cover the surface for even flavor distribution. In addition to buttering and seasoning your turkey, consider stuffing the cavity with aromatic additions like chopped apples and a mix of vegetables such as onions, celery, and carrots. These ingredients impart additional moisture and complement the bacon’s rich flavor. Basting your turkey often with chicken broth or pan juices ensures the meat stays juicy while the bacon crisps up nicely. To avoid burning the bacon, cover the turkey with foil during the initial high-heat baking phase, then remove the foil and lower the heat slightly to crisp the bacon perfectly. Make sure to wash and clean your turkey thoroughly before preparing it, and remember to let the bird rest after baking to allow juices to redistribute. This method has been popular for many years as a Thanksgiving favorite because it brilliantly combines the savory goodness of bacon with the traditional turkey, resulting in a moist, flavorful centerpiece that will impress your guests and elevate your holiday meal.
