1. There is no transparency in pay. I’ve had videos do much worse and get paid way more for the videos. I still have no idea how payment is decided.
2. Customer support is non existent. One of my videos got flagged and they never told me why.
3. The little leaves are supposed to represent how much you get paid, but there is no consistency in what that actually means.
I have made over $500 in the past two months on the app which I’m so thankful for and I will still use the app, but I feel like this NEEDS to be talked about!!
... Read moreSo, you've heard about the Kale App, or maybe you're wondering, 'How does the Kale App work, anyway?' As someone who's been navigating it, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what this UGC (User-Generated Content) platform is all about, beyond just my initial frustrations.
Essentially, the Kale App positions itself as a space for creators to participate in 'challenges' by submitting short videos, and in return, earn money. It sounds straightforward, right? You create content, you get paid. The idea is that brands or the platform itself offer these challenges, and successful submissions receive a payout. For example, I've seen 'challenge payments' come through, like that $29.07 notification I received for one specific challenge, which is always a nice surprise. It’s exciting to get a payment confirmation!
However, as many of us creators quickly learn, the reality can be a bit more complex. My main gripe, and probably yours if you're searching for 'Kale App sucks,' often boils down to the opaque payment system. For instance, I've had videos perform moderately well, getting a few hundred views (like that one with '401 views' that was 'more than my usual'), and sometimes those pay better than others that racked up thousands of views, say, '3,455 views in the first 24 hours.' This lack of transparency makes it incredibly hard to understand what factors truly drive earnings. Are views the primary metric, or is it engagement, completion of specific brand requirements, or something else entirely? It feels like a black box, and as creators, we crave clarity to optimize our efforts.
Then there's the customer support, or rather, the lack thereof. When a video gets flagged, or you have a payment query, you expect to get some answers. But my experience, similar to many others, has been silence. It's frustrating when you invest your time and creative energy into a platform and then feel completely unsupported when issues arise. You're left guessing why something happened, which can be disheartening and make you wary of future participation.
And those 'leaves'? They're supposed to be a visual indicator of earnings or video performance, but they truly lack consistency. One video might have a certain number of leaves and pay X, while another with a similar or even higher number pays Y. It adds to the confusion around compensation and makes it difficult to predict income. It’s like trying to navigate a forest without a map – you might get somewhere, but it's not efficient.
Despite these significant drawbacks, I still find myself using the app, and I've been fortunate enough to make over $500 in a couple of months. This shows that despite its flaws, there is potential for earnings. For new creators considering the Kale App or similar UGC platforms, my advice would be to go in with eyes wide open. Don't rely on it as your sole income source, and diversify your content across other platforms. Always track your earnings independently if possible, and manage your expectations regarding support and payment clarity. While it might 'suck' in some aspects, it can still be a valuable addition to your creator journey if approached strategically.
