My 7-year-old once asked, "Why is my best friend leaving?" which made me realize how deeply this change affects not only us but also children who form strong bonds early on. When your closest friend moves away, it's natural to feel sadness, confusion, and even loneliness. However, I've found that focusing on honest communication helps maintain the friendship. Setting up regular video calls, sharing updates, and planning future visits can keep the connection alive. Another important aspect is accepting and expressing your feelings. Whether through journaling, talking to others, or even humor, acknowledging your emotions prevents bottling up sadness. Incorporating some fun activities like sending care packages or creating shared playlists can add joy and a sense of closeness despite the distance. Also, involving kids in the process by encouraging them to write letters or drawings can help them cope with the change and reinforce friendships. Ultimately, while it’s tough to see a best friend move out, these strategies have helped me turn a hard situation into an opportunity to strengthen bonds in new and meaningful ways.

I’m sorry who’s moving out the seven year-old or the 16-year-old
