Cousins, Next time yall gonna help me clean this up instead of talking down on me.
Having kids around during cleaning time is always an adventure, especially when siblings of different ages are involved. My experience with my 7-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter reminded me that patience and teamwork are key when trying to keep the house tidy. Kids, no matter their age, can be unpredictable helpers. Sometimes, they’re eager to assist, and other times, they’re more interested in talking or getting distracted, which makes the task take longer or even creates more mess. But the laughter and bonding moments that come from these times bring a unique joy to everyday chores. One tip I've learned is to turn cleaning into a game or a challenge. For example, timing each other to see who picks up the most items or setting small rewards can motivate kids to participate enthusiastically. It also helps avoid the scenario where one child ends up cleaning alone while others are just commenting. Timeouts, especially for younger kids, can be useful not just for discipline but also to remind them of expectations and responsibility. This balance of fun, rules, and teamwork helps children learn valuable life skills while making cleaning less of a drag. All in all, involving kids in cleaning may slow down the process, but it enriches family life with memories, teaches responsibility, and sometimes even provides a good laugh. Next cleaning day, I’m hopeful my cousins will join in rather than critique—making it a real team effort!
