Do not use these harsh hair products
After years of working with various hair types and trying countless products, I've realized that many widely used shampoos and hair treatments contain harsh chemicals that can do more harm than good. Brands like Aussie, Dove, Pantene, and TRESemmé often include sulfates, silicones, and synthetic fragrances that strip natural oils and irritate the scalp. Personally, switching to sulfate-free and silicone-free shampoos made a huge difference in the overall health of my hair. One of the products I started recommending is Native Maui’s Vanilla & Cactus Flower shampoo, which is silicone and sulfate-free. Although it doesn’t solve everything for everyone, many clients found their roots less greasy and their ends less dry, which is a sign of balanced hydration. I also found that natural oils, like Batana oil from The Ordinary, can be very helpful for calming scalp irritation and improving hair texture. It’s important to remember no single product works best for all hair types, so trying a few gentle, natural formulations and observing how your hair responds is key. In my experience, products marketed as conditioning without harsh sulfates, such as Shea Moisture and some formulations of Dove, can restore softness and moisture without leaving a heavy buildup. However, watch out for oily scalp issues, which sometimes occur with more moisturizing products. Ultimately, steering clear of products that leave your hair dry, itchy, or brittle is crucial. Look for those labeled sulfate-free, silicone-free, and natural ingredient-focused. These changes helped many of my clients achieve healthier hair growth and maintain a balanced scalp environment, leading to stronger and more vibrant hair over time.
