Making My Own Christmas Ornaments!

I made these and I love them 😍

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 You know, there's just something so magical about decorating for Christmas, and it gets even better when you add a personal touch with DIY ornaments. I recently dove into making some of my own, and honestly, the process was half the fun! If you've been thinking about trying your hand at crafting some unique decorations, let me share why I think it's totally worth it and some super easy ideas to get you started. Creating your own Christmas ornaments isn't just a fun holiday activity; it's also a fantastic way to infuse your tree with personality and cherished memories. Plus, it can be super budget-friendly, especially if you use materials you already have around the house or can easily find. Here are a few of my go-to DIY ornament ideas that anyone can try: 1. Classic Salt Dough Ornaments These are a timeless favorite, especially if you have little ones! They're incredibly simple to make and you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry. Just mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 cup water until you get a firm dough. Roll it out, use cookie cutters for festive shapes (stars, gingerbread men, trees!), and don't forget to poke a hole at the top for hanging before baking. Bake them at a low temperature (around 250°F / 120°C) for 2-3 hours until hard. Once cooled, the real fun begins: painting and decorating! Acrylic paints work perfectly, and you can add glitter, seal with Mod Podge, or even write names and dates for a truly personal touch. 2. Clear Fillable Baubles with a Twist Those clear plastic or glass baubles you can buy are a blank canvas for creativity! Instead of just filling them with glitter (though that's always fun!), try unique fillings. I love using small sprigs of artificial pine, tiny faux berries, or even a miniature photo rolled up inside. You can also add a few drops of acrylic paint and swirl it around the inside for a marbled effect. For a cozy touch, snip small pieces of an old scarf or fabric for a unique texture inside. The possibilities are endless, and each one looks completely different! 3. Natural Pinecone Ornaments If you have pinecones readily available, they make fantastic rustic ornaments. First, make sure to clean them: bake them on a foil-lined tray at 200°F (90°C) for about 30 minutes to kill any bugs and open them up nicely. Once cooled, you can keep them natural, spray them with a bit of metallic paint, or add a touch of glitter to the tips. For a truly adorable ornament, hot glue googly eyes and small felt shapes (ears, noses) to create little pinecone animals like owls or foxes. Attach a loop of twine or ribbon to the top with hot glue for hanging. 4. Felt Cut-Outs & Simple Stitches Felt is such a versatile material for crafting. It's affordable, easy to cut, and doesn't fray. You can cut out simple shapes like stars, hearts, Christmas trees, or even mittens. For a classic look, use white felt and cut out snowflake shapes. Then, using embroidery floss, you can add simple stitches around the edges or create small decorative patterns. Stuff them lightly with cotton batting or fiberfill before stitching them closed for a puffy, soft ornament. Don't forget to attach a loop of thread for hanging before you finish the final stitch. Why I Love Making My Own Ornaments: What I truly adore about DIY Christmas ornaments is the story behind each one. They're not just decorations; they're little pieces of memories. It’s a wonderful activity to do with family, creating new traditions and giving everyone a chance to express their creativity. Plus, they make incredibly thoughtful and unique gifts for friends and loved ones. Imagine gifting an ornament that you painted just for them – it’s so much more personal than anything you can buy in a store. So, gather your supplies, put on some holiday music, and get crafting! You'll be amazed at what you can create.
