Front yard happiness 🥰🌸

... Read moreHey plant lovers! I just had to share something that totally changed my front yard game and honestly, my mood too! ✨ I used to struggle with getting that vibrant, welcoming look, but then I discovered the magic of compound flowers. Seriously, they're a game-changer for creating that 'front yard happiness' we all dream of. I remember stumbling upon some stunning coneflowers at my local nursery, and that's where my obsession began! So, what exactly are compound flowers? You might know them better as 'composite flowers' or members of the daisy family (Asteraceae). Picture a sunflower or a daisy – what looks like one big flower is actually a clever cluster of many tiny flowers called florets, all working together to form one brilliant bloom! This unique structure gives them such a full, beautiful appearance and often makes them incredibly durable. From my experience, these beauties are perfect for a front yard because they offer so much visual impact with relatively little fuss. They're like nature's fireworks display! Their complex structure means they often have longer blooming periods, giving you continuous color from spring right through to fall. Plus, they're fantastic for pollinators, so you'll often see buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies adding to the charm. It's amazing how a few well-placed compound flowers can instantly boost your home's curb appeal and bring a smile to your face every time you pull into the driveway. If you're wondering which ones to try, I've had great success with a few types! Coneflowers (Echinacea) are a must-have for their sturdy nature and gorgeous purple, pink, or even white blooms. They're drought-tolerant once established, which is a big plus for busy gardeners like me. Asters are another favorite of mine, offering a burst of color late in the season when other flowers are fading. Coreopsis brings sunny yellow warmth, and I even dabbled with some smaller varieties of sunflowers for a truly dramatic touch in a sunny spot. Mixing different types creates such a dynamic and interesting display! Now, for the practical bit – how I keep mine thriving! First, most compound flowers love sunshine, so pick a spot that gets at least 6 hours of direct sun daily. Well-draining soil is crucial; I always amend my soil with some compost before planting to give them a good start. When it comes to watering, I tend to water deeply but infrequently, especially once they're established. They don't like soggy feet! Deadheading is my secret weapon for continuous blooms – just snip off those spent flowers, and you'll encourage the plant to produce more. I've also found that a little liquid feed every few weeks during their peak growing season makes a huge difference. And don't worry too much about pests; I've found these plants to be quite resilient, though a quick spray of neem oil can help if you spot any unwelcome visitors. Honestly, incorporating compound flowers into my front yard has been one of the most rewarding gardening decisions I've made. They bring such vibrant life, color, and joy, making my home feel so much more welcoming. If you're looking to elevate your outdoor space and experience that pure 'front yard happiness' every day, I highly recommend giving these incredible flowers a try. Happy gardening, everyone!

So the city dug up our front yard to work on the sewer system. We decided to take advantage of the ordeal & metal detect the mounds of dirt 😁 Our house is 124 years old. It was placed in this location in the early 1900’s. We are thinking around 1906-1908. I thought the penny & marble was
