My surgeon explained that pushing through pain could potentially lead to complications, so getting it checked out quickly is paramount. The waiting period before surgery was tough, not just physically but mentally. I had to wait six weeks because of a bout of pneumonia, which was a real test of patience. Pressing it firmly against your abdomen when you anticipate any sudden movement drastically reduces the strain on your healing muscles and incision, helping to prevent potential complications like a recurrence or hematoma. I learned this the hard way, and trust me, you want to avoid that kind of pain! Beyond the pillow trick, managing pain with prescribed medication and taking it easy is key. Don't try to be a hero; rest is your best friend. Avoid heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling for several weeks – it's crucial for the internal repair to heal properly. I'm taking it one day at a time, focusing on gentle movements and listening to my body. The financial aspect of recovery, especially concerning work, is another stressor. I'm still figuring out if my job will cover my time off, which adds another layer of concern to an already challenging situation. This entire experience has been a huge wake-up call to pay attention to my body and prioritize healing.
