Goodness begins with God.
"If God withdraws his goodness even for one day, can we still call ourselves" good "?"
This question does not require a quick answer, but requires that our hearts stand still, because the root of goodness does not grow out of man if it comes from God.
📖 main scripture.
Psalm 119: 68.
You are good and do good. Teach me your statutes.
The context of this psalm is the cry of those who love the Law in the midst of suffering, persecution, and pressure from the unrighteous (verses 69-71). David did not say that God is good because his life is smooth, but he insisted that God is good even in times of distress, and from that goodness he asked God to "teach" the law.
This is very important -
God is good → He does good → His commandments are good.
Goodness does not begin with human action.
But starting with the nature of God,
Another episode that confirms this principle is
James 1: 17
All good and excellent gifts come from above, from the Creator of the lights. There is no variation or shadow in him.
In context, James is warning believers not to blame God in the face of trials, but to understand that He is not the origin of evil; every good has one source - God.
The character of God on this issue.
God does not "do good" from time to time.
He is naturally good.
His goodness is independent of emotion.
Independent of the human response.
Independent of the world situation.
When he gave the commandment, that was the manifestation of nature.
When He gave Christ, that is the highest self-sacrificing goodness.
At the cross, we see goodness that doesn't just preach.
But accept punishment instead of sinners
Analyze human motivation.
Humans can "do good" outside.
But the internal motives may be completely different.
Do good for image
Do good to God to accept.
Doing good in exchange for salvation
Do good to compare yourself to others
This is goodness with roots from "self," not from God.
The key questions are:
We do good because God is good. And we have been transformed.
Or do we do well to prove to ourselves that we are good?
The goodness that starts with humans will be tired and competitive.
Goodness that begins with God will be humble and lasting.

Ellen G.White clearly emphasized that
God is the source of all good; and man cannot establish his own righteousness.

The core of the teaching is:
True goodness is the fruit of grace.
True righteousness is a gift.
True obedience is the result of love, not fear.
She warns that when humans try to create good without relying on Christ, that good unknowingly becomes spiritual pride.
Saint Life in Modern Times
In the last days, external goodness will be tested.
Revelation 14: 12 says,
"This is the patience of the saints, who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus."
Notice that
It's not just "keep the commandments."
But there must be "faith in Jesus."
Obedience without Christ = Formative Religion
Belief without obedience = belief cut off from the result.
Latter-day Saints will reflect the character of God, not because he tries to look good, but because Christ is inside.
When the test came,
As religious and social pressure increases,
Goodness with human roots will shake.
But goodness with God's roots will be firm.
Spiritual decision today
Today we can choose that.
Will try to be good with their own strength
Or
To submit to Christ, to make a new heart.
Tangible decisions:
1. Pray to accept that our goodness is not enough.
2. May God examine the deepest of hearts.
3. Read the Word, not to accumulate knowledge, but to give it a life-changing nature.
4. Do one good thing today, without anyone knowing, and only glorify God.
Goodness does not come from human hearts.
But deeply rooted in the Lord God.
When Christ reigns in our hearts
Life therefore reflects the shadow of good. ✨
My Father.
He is good and works good.
Take away the root of false goodness in my heart.
Create a new heart rooted in Christ.
Let my obedience be the fruit of love.
And let my life reflect your character.
In an age when truth is tested,
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
