The context before the coming of the Messiah.
1. The state of the world before the coming
Before Jesus Christ came to earth, mankind was living in an age of spiritual darkness; people were hopeless, disgusted with a religious system that left only rituals but lacked spiritual life, and sought the truth, meaning of life, and confidence about eternal life.
2. Hope of the coming of the Messiah
Despite the many peoples of Israel turning away from God, the promise of the Messiah continued to be spread throughout the Roman kingdom through Jews scattered in many countries.
Among those people, there were more who sought truth, studied the Bible, and understood Messianic prophecies than some religious leaders of the time.
3. The Preparation of God's World
God has prepared the world for the coming of Christ in many ways, including:
- On the political side. - The Roman Empire built a stability and transportation system conducive to evangelism.
- On the language side. - Greek is a universal language. It makes the Gospel widely communicated to many people.
- Cultural side. - People are open-minded, seeking truth and ready to receive God's Word.
4. The will of Christ's coming
Jesus Christ came to
- Bring light to those in spiritual darkness.
- Reveal the nature and principles of God's rule.
- Announce the plan of salvation and redemption.
- Teach the truth in simple, understandable and practical language.
5. Christ reveals the truth
Jesus is the Truth, the All.
- Separate God's truth from human customs and teachings;
- Explain the true meaning of the Old Testament Bible.
- Complete Messianic prophecies in Him.
Summary
By the time God decreed, the world was prepared with political, linguistic, cultural, and human spiritual needs, Jesus Christ came to reveal the truth, preach the gospel, bring light to the world, and manifest the plan of salvation so that all who believe in him can receive eternal life.
