I have often wondered why others may not share my level of vigilance, but after hearing countless stories of harm caused even by those we consider trustworthy, my resolve only strengthens. For instance, the OCR content highlights fears about individuals like FedEx drivers, Disney employees, pastors, babysitters, social workers, and even family and friends. While these people often play vital roles in our communities, it's unsettling how these roles sometimes mask potential threats. From my personal experience, the decision to always be physically present when my daughter is outside is not about mistrust but about ensuring her safety in a complex world. It means never allowing her to go to sleepovers unsupervised or walk to school alone, even though these may seem like normal childhood experiences to some. This overprotectiveness is my way of giving her the best chance at a safe and happy childhood. Safety is a multi-layered issue that also involves educating children about boundaries, recognizing inappropriate behavior, and developing open communication. Being a #girlmom, I especially feel the weight of societal dangers confronting girls today. It’s not about fear but awareness and preparation. At the end of the day, every parent must find their balance between protecting and allowing independence. For me, being a vigilant presence when my daughter is out ensures her safety and gives me peace of mind amidst concerns that sometimes go unheard or dismissed by others.
