I've been in situations where I supported someone wholeheartedly when they had no job, no money, or any stability, just like the phrase, "I was the girl who was there during his no job, no money, no car, no dates." It felt like I was a rock, their constant support system despite the hardships. Looking back, those experiences taught me how complex loyalty can be. Sometimes, the person you're there for during their lowest point might not recognize or appreciate your presence the way you thought they would. It can be incredibly painful to invest so much emotionally and then feel like you’re the one who ends up getting hurt in the end. I learned to balance my support with self-care, recognizing when my efforts were no longer healthy for me. Being there for someone doesn't mean sacrificing your own happiness. For anyone walking through similar experiences of backing someone through tough times, remember to value yourself and set boundaries. It’s okay to be supportive, but it’s also important not to lose yourself in the process. Through this journey, I've found that while love and loyalty are beautiful, they must be mutual to truly thrive. It’s an intense lesson in resilience, heartache, and ultimately, growth.
