... Read moreVisiting Guanxian Ancient Town in Dujiangyan offers a wonderful contrast to the hustle and bustle of Chengdu city. From my personal experience, the town's charm lies in its unhurried lifestyle and the rich local culture visible in every corner. Walking through the cobblestone streets, I enjoyed the mix of old architecture combined with warm, inviting shops. One of the highlights was definitely tasting the local delicacies. The Yebobo Mantou, wrapped in leaves with a unique soybean milk flavor, was a delightful treat—soft and warm, it felt like a perfect street snack. Equally memorable were the Sweet Water Noodles, notably thick and chewy, bursting with a sweet, spicy sauce that truly represents Sichuan flavors.
Aside from food, the small cafes such as Li Coffee provided a perfect rest stop. Sitting there and watching locals stroll by, I felt a deep sense of connection to the slower rhythm of life there. Another tip I found useful was to explore the ancient city’s city walls. Climbing the Ming wall gave me breathtaking panoramic views that transported me back in time. Photographers will definitely appreciate the atmospheric lighting in the evening when the town lights up.
Regarding the “Blue Tears” light show some travelers anticipate at night, I found it less impressive than anticipated; the online pictures set high expectations. Visiting in colder months with elderly or children might make waiting less worthwhile. Instead, focusing on daytime exploration and sampling street foods offers more enjoyment.
Overall, Guanxian Ancient Town is ideal for those looking to escape crowded tourist spots and experience authentic local life, food, and culture at a relaxing pace. It's a perfect destination for a half-day trip if you want to unwind and absorb the genuine charm of Dujiangyan.
