I was given an ARC copy of The Outsider and am so glad I was! If I could rate this book higher than five stars I would. This will be a book that I think about every single day.
The Outsider takes place in a dystopian world where there are Insiders and Outsiders. The Insiders are viewed as the civilized society, and the Outsiders are seen as savages. The Insiders created soulmates, which genetically link a person to another person. They share the same scars and the same pain. The world-building is incredible, and the characters are so realistic and loveable. The descriptions of each event are so well written that you feel like you are in the story.
Nova is the FMC and she is from the Inside. There has only ever been comfort and safety for her on the inside. She wants nothing more than to escape the Inside. Covered in scars that do not belong to her. Each with a story she does not know but wants to. The moment she meets her soulmate, everything she has ever known is left behind for a new life.
The MMC is Caspian. He is tough, grumpy, and a man of few words. He is from the Outside, and he has all of the scars of a warrior living in the wild. Caspian thought soulmates were something the Inside made up to control people. Content living his life on the Outside, he finds it difficult to accept the changes in his life now that he knows his soulmate exists.
The Outsider had me in emotional distress. The connection between soulmates and the raw emotions of the characters is like nothing I've ever read. The cliffhanger at the end has me dying for more. I can't wait to see where the next book takes us. I will read anything that this author writes! Love. Love. Love!
