1. I completely cut out secular music. One thing about me, I was on Rod Wave, Lil Durk, and Summer Walker real bad😂. As I’ve grown closer to God I realized that music is very powerful and can have a stronghold on you without you even realizing it. The Bible tells us to set our mind on things that are pure and the music that I was listening to wasn’t pure AT ALL. As a woman of God secular music is something that I no longer have the desire to listen to.
2. Gossiping. This change is something that I’m still working on. Gossiping is so easy to do without even thinking about it! The Bible says that even listening to gossip is considered gossip, so I’m working on guarding my ears and not putting my mouth on others. We all have flaws so my thought process is to worry about me and my own problems.
3. Spending more time with God. All throughout the day I’m constantly talking to God. I read the Bible more and have even started to fast more. These three changes seem small but they are so big to me. ✨

As I shared about the changes I've embraced – stepping away from secular music, striving to guard my words, and deepening my time with God – I often find myself turning to scripture for encouragement and guidance. For anyone on a similar path, especially those seeking a 'new beginning,' certain Bible verses truly resonate and provide strength.
When I first started making these shifts, I felt overwhelmed at times. It was like I was shedding an old skin and stepping into something entirely new. That's when verses about renewal and fresh starts became my anchors. They reminded me that God is all about new beginnings, and His grace is sufficient for every step.
One verse that constantly lifts my spirit is Isaiah 43:18-19: 'Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.' This verse is a powerful reminder that no matter what habits or patterns we're trying to leave behind, God is actively creating something fresh and beautiful in our lives. It helps me to not beat myself up over past choices, like the music I used to listen to, but instead to focus on the new path He's laying out.
Then there's 2 Corinthians 5:17: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!' This verse perfectly encapsulates the spiritual transformation we experience. It's not just about making small adjustments; it's about becoming a completely new person in Christ. This truth empowers me when I'm working on something challenging, like retraining my tongue to avoid gossip. It tells me that the old gossiping self is gone, and I am now a new creation, capable of speaking life and kindness.
And for those daily struggles, those moments where we feel we've messed up or need renewed strength, Lamentations 3:22-23 is a balm to the soul: 'Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.' This verse reminds me that every single day is a fresh start. If I slip up, or if I feel my resolve weakening, I can wake up the next morning knowing God's mercies are new. This encourages me to consistently spend time with Him, knowing that each new day brings an opportunity to deepen that connection.
Finally, as I strive to set my mind on pure things, Romans 12:2 comes to mind: 'Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.' This verse has been crucial in helping me understand why I needed to cut out secular music. It's about renewing my mind to align with God's will, which then naturally changes my desires and choices. It's not just about abstinence, but about a deep, internal transformation.
I love jotting these verses down in my notebook – much like the image shows with handwritten notes alongside an open Bible. Having them visible helps me meditate on them throughout the day. Yes I agree. Nooo secular music. I stopped cussing. I stopped smoking . I stay in constant prayer 🤲🏽. And I stopped binge watching tv shows and deleted Facebook and Tik tok. I love how the Holy Spirit will change you!
