are dr martens overrated?! 😱 let’s chat

i want to start by saying i do really love my dr martens. the style is so cute!! but im just wondering are they really worth all the hype?

to be honest these are the heaviest most uncomfortable shoes i think ive ever worn! especially before i broke them in they were KILLING my feet!

and i even bought their lightweight “comfy” option for work shoes & they still hurt my feet after a couple of hours. i could never imagine working a full shift in these! i remember when i first got them my feet were aching worse than they ever have. & i’ve worn my friend’s dr marten boots & they were even worse!! i just feel like for the cost they could be more practical.

i do love how they look for styling outfits. i just find myself only wanting to wear them if i know im only going to be out for an hour or two. otherwise my legs & feet get sore.

what are your thoughts?!

... Read moreOkay, I totally get where you're coming from about Dr. Martens! It's such a love-hate relationship for so many of us who adore the iconic look but struggle with the initial discomfort. If you're like me and find your feet aching, don't give up just yet! I've picked up a few tips and tricks over the years that might just make those 'killing me' shoes more bearable. First off, the break-in period is real, and it's no joke. Many seasoned Doc wearers swear by a few methods. One popular hack is wearing really thick socks, or even two pairs, for the first few weeks. This helps stretch the leather gradually. Another game-changer can be a good leather balm or conditioner. Applying it generously, especially to the stiffer areas around the ankle and toe box, can soften the material and make it more pliable. I also recommend wearing them for short bursts around the house before committing to a full day out. It’s like training your feet and the boots simultaneously! Some people even use a hairdryer on low heat (carefully!) to warm up the leather before flexing it to help it mold faster. Beyond comfort, let's talk about the 'cute' factor and styling those Dr. Martens on your feet. While they might feel heavy, their versatility in street style outfits is undeniable. I love pairing my classic black Docs with flowy floral dresses to add an edgy contrast – it’s a perfect blend of tough and feminine. For a more casual look, they’re fantastic with cuffed jeans and an oversized sweater. Don’t forget about socks! Colorful or patterned socks peeking out can add so much personality and elevate your whole look. For the 1461 shoes, which are a bit less bulky than the boots, they work brilliantly with tailored trousers or even smart-casual office wear if your workplace allows. The key is to embrace their unique aesthetic and let them be a statement piece. Finally, are they really worth the hype and investment? While they might not be the pinnacle of immediate comfort, many find their durability and timeless style make them a long-term wardrobe staple. Once broken in, they can genuinely last for years, becoming a part of your signature look. For those who prioritize fashion and a certain rebellious vibe, the initial pain might be a rite of passage. If you’re considering a pair, think about what you want them for. If it’s for that undeniable style and you’re prepared for the break-in journey, they can be incredibly rewarding. But if supreme, instant comfort is your top priority, there might be other options out out there. However, for adding that 'street style' edge or just having a pair of boots that last, they often do live up to their reputation, just not always comfortably from day one!

Im a huge fan of Doc Martens. What I do before I break them I wear thick’s socks. I have some of them since college years and it my day-day shoes that I personally wear them.
