how to style a bikini as an alternative girl! 🖤🌴👙

as an alternative girl, it can be difficult sometimes to find ways to style my bikinis that don’t feel too girlie.

this is one of my go-to looks when i’m heading to the beach but don’t want to feel like i had to change my whole aesthetic and personality 😹

here’s what i use:

▪️ black triangle string bikini (but this works with any style of bikini!)

▪️ black wash jean shorts (these are high rise mid thigh shorts but choose whichever fit is best for you!)

▪️ an oversized tote bag

▪️ a bandana

▪️ black platform sandals

▪️ sunglasses

▪️ layered necklaces

The struggle to find swimwear that isn't overly cutesy or 'girly' is real! But trust me, you can absolutely maintain your alt aesthetic and feel amazing in your beachwear. Beyond the classic black triangle string bikini – which, let's be honest, is a fantastic base – there are so many ways to infuse that alternative vibe. Think about different cuts: high-waisted bottoms can give a retro-goth feel, while a bandeau top paired with some edgy accessories can lean more punk. Don't shy away from one-piece suits either; look for ones with cool cutouts, mesh panels, or even subtle graphic prints like celestial motifs, dark florals, or abstract designs. While black is a go-to for an alt girl bikini look, consider earthy tones like deep forest green, burgundy, or even a bold charcoal grey to add variety without straying from your dark aesthetic. For a real 'goth baddie in bikini' vibe, you might even find suits with buckle details or chains. The real magic often happens with your cover-ups and accessories, essential for any alternative bikini outfit. Instead of a traditional sheer sarong, why not throw on an oversized band tee, a distressed denim shirt, or a mesh or fishnet top over your black bikini top? These pieces instantly transform the look. For those cooler beach evenings, a vintage leather or denim jacket can be surprisingly chic, draped over your shoulders. Distressed black denim shorts, like the ones I often wear, are also perfect for a beach day. Remember how a bandana can instantly elevate the look? I personally love how it adds a touch of rebellion. Accessories are your best friends for showcasing your personal style. Layered necklaces, especially silver ones with spikes, charms, or crosses, add depth. Chunky rings and chain anklets can also make a statement. For footwear, those black platform sandals are perfect for a beach girl style, but consider combat sandals or even classic black canvas sneakers if you're just walking to the beach. And don't forget your bags! An oversized tote bag is practical, but a studded backpack or a utility-style fanny pack can scream 'alternative' too. Look for sunglasses with unique frames – think classic round, sharp cat-eye, or even mirrored lenses for a touch of mystique. Even your hair and makeup play a part in creating a cohesive alternative style girl look. That vibrant pink hair you might rock? It’s part of your identity! A simple, smudgey eyeliner or a deep berry lipstick can complete your beach-ready alt look without being heavy. The key is to feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. Whether you're lounging under palm trees or strolling along the sand, owning your style is what truly makes a 'goth baddie in bikini' or 'hot tomboy beach outfit' stand out. Don't be afraid to experiment and create your own unique black bikini beach style. It’s all about expressing yourself authentically.
