putting a dress over jeans??? 👀👗👖

i’ve been seeing girls putting jeans underneath their dresses lately & at first it sounded so absurd to me, but i always really love the final looks!

so i decided to give it a try. unfortunately this black mini dress was tighter than i realized, so it was not really the best option for this look. i also didn’t like how the black on black came out. i feel like you couldn’t really tell the dress was there. but maybe that’s just me?

what do you guys think? are you in to this look? 🤔

i feel like with a different mini dress i would like it! thoughts?

... Read moreI've been seeing the 'dress over jeans' trend popping up all over my feed, and honestly, at first, I thought it was a bit out there! But the more looks I saw, the more intrigued I became by this unexpected layering combo. It really challenges what we typically think of as 'dressy' or 'casual,' blending comfort with a touch of edge. Like many of you, I decided to give it a try. My initial thought was to grab a trusty black mini dress, but as I mentioned, it turned out to be a bit too snug for the look I was going for. That first experience taught me a ton about what not to do, and more importantly, what might actually make this trend work for everyone – especially if you're trying the dress over jeans trend for the first time! Why This Trend is Worth Exploring (and How to Make it Work!): Comfort Meets Style: One of the biggest appeals of this trend is the added comfort. Jeans provide warmth and coverage, allowing you to wear shorter dresses or lighter fabrics even on cooler days. It's also a fantastic way to extend your wardrobe, giving new life to dresses you might only wear for specific occasions. Layering for Dimension: Layering isn't just for warmth; it adds incredible depth and interest to an outfit. A dress over jeans creates a unique silhouette that's both fashion-forward and practical. It breaks away from traditional styling rules, giving your look an effortlessly cool vibe. Tips for Nailing the Look (Learned from My Own Attempts!): Choose the Right Dress: My mistake was a tight mini. For a successful dress over jeans look, opt for dresses that have a bit more flow or a looser fit. A-line dresses, slip dresses, shirt dresses, or even a tunic dress work wonderfully. Think about midi or maxi lengths too – they can look surprisingly chic layered over jeans. The key is to avoid anything too body-con or restrictive in the skirt area. Pick Your Jeans Wisely: Skinny jeans or straight-leg jeans tend to work best as they create a sleek base without adding too much bulk underneath the dress. A cropped length can also be stylish, showing off your ankles and footwear. Consider the wash too – a lighter wash denim can contrast nicely with a darker dress, making the dress stand out more than when I tried black on black! Play with Proportions: Balance is crucial. If your dress is voluminous, pair it with slimmer jeans. If your dress is shorter, make sure your jeans provide enough coverage to feel comfortable. Don't be afraid to experiment with different lengths and fits until you find what feels right for your body shape. Footwear Matters: This trend is incredibly versatile with shoes! Sneakers give it a casual, street-style edge. Ankle boots can make it look more polished and autumnal. Heels or strappy sandals can elevate the look for a night out. The shoes can really define the overall vibe. Accessorize Thoughtfully: A belt can cinch the dress at the waist, creating a more defined silhouette over your jeans. Statement jewelry or a chic handbag can pull the whole outfit together. Remember, the goal is to make it look intentional, not like an afterthought. So, while my first try wasn't a total home run, it definitely sparked my interest in perfecting this trend. I'm excited to try again with a flowier dress and different jeans. This trend is all about experimentation and having fun with fashion. What do you guys think? Have you tried it? What are your favorite combinations? Let’s share our tips and tricks for rocking this unique style!
