Posting this for accountability

At the start of the year I started really slacking on taking care of my natural hair. I had so much shit going on. I wasn’t moisturize it enough and if I’m being honest…what was a trim?🤣🤣🤣 today I cut (most of) my heat damage off and have been being consistent with keeping my hair moisturized. (As I should) for the last month or so I’ve kept my hair braided down and thrown a wig on top. This helped me grow my hair a couple years back. Now Im trying to grow long, healthy hair again so I’m gonna post on here more to stay accountable. Wish me luck! And if you have tips please by all means drop em🙂

I completely understand what it feels like to neglect your hair, especially when you don’t fully realize the importance of regular trims or consistent moisturizing. It took me months of dealing with dryness, breakage, and heat damage before I decided to make a serious change. One key thing I learned on this journey is the importance of moisture. Natural hair thrives when regularly hydrated, so I committed to a moisturizing routine that included water-based leave-in conditioners and natural oils like jojoba and castor oil to seal in the moisture. This not only helped reduce breakage but also improved the overall softness and shine of my hair. Protective styling played a huge role as well. Keeping my hair in braids and covering it with a wig reduced manipulation and gave my strands time to recover. This is a technique I actually tried a couple of years back with great success, so revisiting this method felt like a natural choice. Protective styles also save you time during hectic days since you don’t have to handle your hair daily. And yes, the heat damage — I had to cut it off. Though it was scary at first to cut so much length away, it was necessary to give my hair a fresh start. Sometimes letting go of the old damaged parts is the best way to encourage new healthy growth. I’ve also discovered that sharing your progress publicly, like posting updates on social media, creates a sense of accountability. It motivates you to stay consistent and opens doors to learn from others’ experiences. So if you’re trying to grow your natural hair long and healthy, consider documenting your journey and interacting with a supportive community. Lastly, I encourage anyone on a similar path to embrace patience and self-love. Natural hair growth is not an overnight process; it’s a commitment to treating your hair with gentleness and care every day. And don’t be afraid to try different products and techniques to find what truly works for your hair type and lifestyle. Remember, your hair journey is uniquely yours — enjoy the process!
