Coffee at home 🤍
Making coffee at home can truly elevate your daily routine, but maintaining your coffee maker is just as important as choosing the right beans. One key maintenance step that many coffee lovers overlook is descaling the machine regularly. Descaling helps remove mineral buildup from water, which can affect the taste and performance of your coffee maker. Hard water deposits can clog the internal parts, leading to weaker coffee and potential damage to your equipment. Depending on how often you use your coffee maker, descaling should be done every 1 to 3 months. I usually use a simple mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water to descale my machine. I run it through a brewing cycle once, then follow with two cycles of fresh water to flush out any vinegar taste. Some machines also have a specific descaling solution you can buy—either option works well. Not only does descaling improve the taste — making your espresso shots richer and your drip coffee smoother — but it also extends the lifespan of your machine, saving money in the long run. Additionally, beyond descaling, cleaning the removable parts frequently, such as the filter basket and carafe, helps prevent coffee oils and residue buildup that can alter flavor and aroma. If you're serious about enjoying café-quality coffee at home, scheduling descaling and regular cleaning is a small investment that makes a big difference. It’s a simple way to ensure your coffee always tastes fresh and delicious, whether you’re brewing an intense espresso or a relaxing mug of drip coffee.
