Formacio Pizzeria🚨

Last I was here I complimented the food and asked if they got to keep the tips. They told me they have to hand all tips to the owner at the end of the day, and at the end of the month, the owner gives each staff member just $20.😳

That’s illegal in Texas. I double checked with another employee, and they confirmed it. Imagine working hard for great service, only for management to pocket the tips meant for you. ❌😤

I’m all about supporting local but to the management of Formacio’s: Taking staff tips and giving back a flat amount isn’t a valid tip pool, it’s tip theft. 🚔🚨

Always ask when tipping, in this case the employees don’t even get to keep the money! ‼️

... Read moreWorking in the restaurant industry often involves relying heavily on tips for fair compensation, but at Formacio Pizzeria in Mercedes, TX, reports suggest that employees face significant mistreatment and illegal practices. According to multiple accounts, all tips given by customers are collected by the owner at the end of each day, with employees receiving only a fixed $20 monthly payment. This practice violates Texas labor law, which requires that tips belong solely to the employees unless a proper tip pooling arrangement is in place. More disturbing are firsthand testimonies revealing hazardous workplace conditions. Employees mention infestations with cockroaches and even rats in the kitchen areas, improper handling of food, and use of contaminated pizza boxes that have been shaken to dislodge roaches but still put to use. These unsanitary practices pose serious health risks not only to the staff but also to customers. Workers have also reported being forced to work excessive unpaid hours, including one to two hours before opening and after closing without appropriate wage compensation. Additionally, the management reportedly ignores employees’ requests for days off, frequently placing staff under intense pressure to comply with inconvenient schedules. There are also troubling claims about inappropriate behavior by the owner toward young, mostly teenage female staff, fostering a hostile and uncomfortable working environment. If you plan to visit Formacio Pizzeria or any local business, it’s crucial to be aware of how tipping is managed and the treatment of employees. Good customer service should be rewarded directly and fairly. Supporting businesses ethically means advocating for employee rights and safe workplace conditions. By shining a light on these practices, customers can help enforce accountability and encourage a more respectful, healthy work environment for all employees.
