... Read moreHey everyone! Only acne girlies understand the pain of trying everything and anything to try and heal your acne. It's a frustrating cycle, especially when you're looking at strong medications like Accutane and wondering if there’s another way to support your body first. Before I even considered diving into Accutane, I really wanted to focus on healing my body from the inside out. I’d heard so much about how skin issues can be linked to gut health and liver function, so I started researching oral herbs for acne. It wasn't about finding a quick fix, but rather a way to gently detoxify and strengthen my system. Here are some of the oral herbs that became a part of my routine, and what I learned about them: Burdock Root: This was one of the first herbs I tried. It's known for its blood-purifying properties and its ability to support liver function, which is crucial for filtering toxins that can contribute to breakouts. I usually took it as a tincture, and while the taste was earthy, I felt like it was doing good work behind the scenes. Dandelion Root: Another amazing herb for liver support! Dandelion helps stimulate bile production, aiding in digestion and detoxification. I mostly drank dandelion root tea, which definitely helped me feel lighter and less prone to congestion. It’s a bit bitter, but you get used to it, and the benefits for my skin were noticeable over time. Milk Thistle: This herb is a powerhouse for liver regeneration and protection. Given that Accutane can be tough on the liver, I felt it was important to nourish mine as much as possible beforehand. I opted for milk thistle capsules, as it’s a more concentrated way to get its benefits. Spearmint Tea: This one was a game-changer for my hormonal acne, especially those painful cystic breakouts around my chin and jawline. I started drinking two cups of organic spearmint tea daily, and I truly believe it helped regulate my hormones and reduce inflammation. It's a gentler approach, but very effective for many. Incorporating these oral herbs was part of a larger strategy to truly heal your acne from within. It wasn't just about taking a pill; it was about understanding that my body needed support to function optimally. I also made sure to focus on a wholesome, anti-inflammatory diet, packed with fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, and reducing processed foods and sugars. This holistic approach, targeting internal health, really helped lay a foundation for clearer skin. Remember, consistency is key, and it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or an herbalist before starting any new supplement regimen, especially when dealing with chronic conditions like acne or considering strong treatments like Accutane.
