Rating my Lunch 🇬🇧
5th go with the paint marker’s and I’ve learned I’m not amazing at painting pastries so I’ll work on that. Idk why I’ve been rating things out of 10 but today I felt like doing it out of 5. As someone who used to live in the UK this place does remind me of a a regular pub but it’s their gift Shop/British Goods store right next door to it that makes me really nostalgic.
Visiting Ye Olde King's Head offers more than just a meal; it's a true dive into British pub culture that brings back a wave of nostalgia, especially for those who have lived in the UK. One of the highlights is their sausage, which scored a perfect 5/5 for capturing that rich, savory essence that reminds me of authentic British comfort food. However, their cider selection could use improvement, especially if you have a sweet tooth, as it fell short with a low rating. Fish & chips — a staple in any British pub — hit an average mark here. The batter was a bit underwhelming, lacking the crisp texture and flavor that one hopes for; yet the thick-cut fries and tartar sauce saved the dish from being a mere disappointment. This meal truly embodies a traditional pub experience with the familiar textures and flavors, even if slightly watered down from expectations. I appreciate how the atmosphere transports you back to a typical British pub, complete with a gift shop next door offering British goods that were very nostalgic for me. It’s a lovely touch that complements the meal and overall experience, making it more than just food but a cultural snapshot. As an amateur pastry painter, I’ve been trying to improve my skills and decided to rate my food out of five this time, reflecting a more casual and personal take on each dish. It’s fun to combine my love for art with culinary exploration, even if I’m not yet perfect at decorating pastries. If you’re a fan of British cuisine or just looking for an authentic pub vibe, Ye Olde King’s Head is worth checking out. Just manage your expectations with the desserts and cider, and enjoy the hearty, traditional British savory options.
