DIY Zodiac pinatas ♌️

1. Draw a naive style animal (see inspiration!) on a piece of card-board.

2. Cut it out with a craft knife.

3. Trace it and cut out the opposite side.

4. Cut a three inch wide strip of corrugated cardboard approximately the length of the the circumference of your piñata. Cut more as needed.

5. Add string for haning the piñata. Reinforce the center of your corrugated stripe with paper tape and thread some twine through two holes with a yarn needle, being sure to leave about 3 inches between the two holes so the cardboard doesn't tear when the piñata is hung. Tie a knot and leave enough of a tail for hanging.

6. Wrap around and affix to side one of your piñata with paper tape (dampen tape before applying with a wet sponge brush).

7. Affix the second side in the same manner.

8. Using tempera paint, color and decorate all parts of the piñata you are not planning on covering in fringe (claws, tails, anything that will be complicated to fringe). Allow to dry thoroughly.

9. Create the fringe by stacking several sheets of tissue paper and then cutting them into three inch wide strips. Stack up around 8 sheets at a time and cut 1.5" wide fringe with scissors, leaving about 1/2" uncut at the top.
