The perfect movies for a slasher summer ☀️👻🎬

1. The Cabin in the Woods, 2011

⭐️8.0/10

– This film is firing on all cylinders. The cast is AMAZING! It pokes fun at the whole horror genre, while still managing to be one of the best in the genre. This flick is Hemsworth-the-watch.

2. The Purge: Anarchy, 2014

⭐️7.0/10

– I first saw this in 2014 on a dvd which I own. Revisited it recently with my family.

This is the second installment in The Purge franchise. While the first film was set entirely in one house, this one takes place around the Los Angeles area and shows more of what happens to the surroundings during the purge night. While many liked this one better than its predecessor, i found the first one more tension filled n shocking.

This one is a good action thriller and has one of my fav actor Frank Grillo, in his first leading role.

This one has more action n the empty roads n alleys gave a creepy feel to it.

3. The Last House on the Left, 2009

⭐️6.0/10

– A remake of Wes Craven's 1972 movie. Fairly good, and better than the original.

The director builds the scenario and tension well and doesn't overdo the horror clichés.

Convincing acting by a cast of unknowns. The original was pretty much your standard 1970s B-grade exploitation thriller, complete with low production values and hammy acting. This version, on the other hand, is much slicker and has decent performances.

4. X, 2022

⭐️8.0/10

– I liked it. It's a nice old-fashioned (flawlessly 70's styled) slasher horror-flick, with a fairly original premise. As in any comparable horror movie the motives for the killings are pretty farfetched, but who cares, when they are pictured so relentlessley gruesome, the gore here is definitely not for the tender-hearted. Another strong point is how the movie very gradually builds up the tension, this is a real slow burner, the apprehension of looming doom is palpable throughout the movie. This is helped by a strong direction, a very clever and inventive editing, and some great photography, see for instance the scene of one of the girls swimming in the lake, while... well, I won't give it away, but it's beautiful and hair-raisingly scary at the same time!

Add to all this some very funny dialogues and goings-on at the start, and you're in for a well made, old-school horror flick, maybe not life-changing but absolutely entertaining for those who can apprciate this kind of movie (like me!).

5. In the Tall Grass, 2019

⭐️6.0/10

– While traveling to San Diego, Cal DeMuth (Avery Whitted) stops the car nearby a tall grass field since his pregnant sister Becky (Laysla De Oliveira) is sick and need to vomit.

They overhear the cry for help from a young boy and decide to look for the boy in the field. Soon they realize the field is a supernatural place that manipulates time and space and there is no way out from the tall grass.

"In the Tall Grass" is an intriguing supernatural horror movie with a story based on a novel of Stephen King that recalls a creepy episode of The Twilight Zone. The conclusion is open to interpretation but if the boy succeeds to stop Cal and Becky, Travis will probably never look for them and consequently would be also saved. My vote is six.
