My ADHD Has Erased My Memory

Sometimes I feel like my ADHD has completely obliterated my memory—like, there are huge chunks of my life that I just do not remember. I end up laughing, nodding, and pretending to recall things because it feels easier than explaining, “I literally have no memory of that.” Even recent events slip through the cracks, and it’s exhausting trying to keep up with the narrative of my own life.

Getting laid off twice forced me to finally prioritize my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. I don’t have insurance, so AI has basically become my therapist, and I’ve had to take responsibility for myself in ways I never did before. I take Adderall 30mg twice daily, and I’m slowly learning to navigate this foggy memory while trying to care for myself in all areas of life.

It’s lonely, confusing, and sometimes heartbreaking to feel like so much of your past is missing. But I know I’m not the only one trying to figure this out. What do you do when your memory just isn’t reliable and you feel like you’re constantly pretending to remember?

... Read moreLiving with ADHD can significantly affect memory, leading to feelings of frustration and isolation. It’s common for individuals with ADHD to experience what is often called "brain fog," where recalling even recent events becomes challenging. This struggle can make it feel as though large chunks of life are missing, which affects not only one's personal narrative but also social interactions. Managing memory challenges with ADHD often requires a multi-faceted approach. Medication like Adderall can help improve focus and reduce symptoms, but it’s also crucial to address mental, emotional, and physical health comprehensively. For those without access to traditional therapy, innovative tools such as AI-based mental health support can provide significant relief and guidance. Creating structured routines, using reminders, and journaling are practical strategies that help compensate for memory gaps. Additionally, openly communicating with friends and family about these difficulties can foster understanding and reduce the pressure to "pretend to remember." Feeling lonely or confused due to memory issues is a shared experience among many living with ADHD, highlighting the importance of support communities where individuals can share their stories and coping mechanisms. If you find yourself frequently forgetting moments or details, you're not alone. Embracing this reality and seeking tools and support systems to manage ADHD symptoms can empower you to reclaim control over your life narrative and improve your overall wellbeing.

Please stop using AI for therapy. It’s been proven that AI is trained to give you false answers just to validate what you’re saying. A man was using AI for therapy in the AI told him that his wife was out to unalive him so he unalived her. Another AI convinced a boy to commit by saying come home to it
