Spooky, Unsettling, Captivating

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

Synopsis:

When the newly wed cousin of Noemí reaches out via letter in a concerning way, she heads out to the Mexican countryside to see if everything is okay. Quickly, Noemí is greeted by a dark and dingy house, her sick cousin, and a family full of very odd rules. There is something afoot going on, and Noemí is determined to figure out exactly what is going on.

👍Pros :

Noemí is a really well written character. She’s smart, pragmatic, and a socialite. Despite this, she isn’t a Mary Sue; she has moments of giving into fear, of second guessing herself, and making mistakes. I found myself rooting for Noemí and her cousin, even when I wasn’t sure if either of them would survive the ending.

Cons: As long as you read the trigger warning for this book, it won’t be so jarring. While things aren’t depicted in gory ways, it could still be more uncomfortable for some readers than for others.
