Mexican Gothic:
I loved how smart and savvy Noemí was throughout the book. How even when she was scared, she tried to be logical and keep her wits about her. Noemí just has the vibe of “I don’t need no man”, but is still open to accepting love in her life. She had goals and objectives, and she stayed true to those ambitions.
The Prison Healer:
This book covered some heavy themes while still maintaining a plot driven story. Kiva was resourceful and cunning, which she needed to be after living in a death prison for a decade. Nobody in this story felt like they had plot armor, which was something I enjoyed.
Aphrodite Made Me Do It:
Despite reading this a while ago, some of these poems still stick with me. The artwork gave the book a ‘scrapbook’ kind of vibe, which was really fun and I think added to the experience.
Nettle and Bone:
If you’re an adult who enjoyed Frozen, this may be a good book for you. It has sisterly love, drama between two royal families, a subplot love interest, and a fairy godmother. Marra is a woman who would do anything for her family, even collect moon beams in a jar and build a bone dog.
Divine Rivals:
Iris and Roman were opposites in a lot of ways, and they have to overcome it all. I really enjoyed the slow burn ‘literally go to war’ for her vibes. I enjoyed the letters between the two characters, and I’m still devastated by the ending.
