How I prep for my monthly review pages
How I prep for my monthly reviews. At the first of each month I put sticky notes on the last day for highlights, music, shows and movies. That way it’s all in one place when I’m ready to work on the page and I don’t have to go searching for what I want to include. These are some of my favorite pages to look back on.

You know how sometimes you want to remember all the good stuff (and maybe even the lessons learned!) from your month, but by the time you sit down to do your monthly review, it's all a blur? I totally get it! That's why I've refined my system, and it all revolves around those handy yellow sticky notes. These aren't just for quick reminders; they're my secret weapon for effective revision notes for life's moments, turning my planner into a dynamic journal. My process starts right at the beginning of the month. Instead of waiting until the July 31st (or whatever the last day is!) when I'm ready to create my beautiful planner page recap, I preemptively place sticky notes for different categories. Just like the one you might see for a monthly recap prep, I have dedicated notes for highlights, music, shows, and movies. This makes collecting those handwritten entries throughout the weeks so much easier. Did I watch a brilliant film like "Deadpool 2"? Or get hooked on a new series like "PLL New Girl"? Or maybe a song like "Fresh out the Slammer" became my anthem? I jot it down instantly. This isn't just about entertainment; it’s about capturing the cultural touchstones of my month. But it goes beyond just entertainment. Think about 'revision notes' in a broader sense. What if you used sticky notes to capture small victories, new skills learned, or even challenges overcome? For instance, I've started adding a 'Learned Something New' sticky note, or a 'Goal Progress' one. This transforms the monthly review into a genuine study session of my own personal growth. By the time I'm ready to fill my Hobonichi Cousin or Techo, all the key information is already organized. No scrambling, no forgotten gems! Another trick I've found incredibly useful is color-coding my sticky notes. Maybe yellow is for highlights, pink for new discoveries, and blue for things I want to improve on next month. This visual cue makes scanning for information even faster when I'm compiling my full review. It’s like creating a mini-database of your life, ready for easy access. The beauty of this method is its flexibility. It's not just for monthly reviews; you can adapt it for weekly check-ins or even project-based planning. Imagine using a system like this for an actual academic study period: quick notes on key concepts, tricky formulas, or important dates, all on sticky notes, ready to be organized into a more formal revision notes system later. The act of writing it down, even briefly, helps with retention. Ultimately, by using sticky notes for this kind of 'monthly recap prep,' I’m not just making pretty planner pages. I’m actively engaging in self-reflection, creating a living archive of my experiences, and essentially 'studying' my own life. It helps me appreciate the good, learn from the not-so-good, and plan for an even better next month. It’s a simple hack that brings immense value and makes the entire review process genuinely enjoyable.

That’s a great idea ❤️
