The Housemaid

Reseña de The Housemaid

#thehousemaid #lecturas #lectoras #librostiktok #librosrecomendados

... Read moreAfter reading so many mixed reviews about Freida McFadden's 'The Housemaid,' I finally dove in, and oh boy, did it spark some thoughts! The original review hinted at many of the plot twists being predictable, and I completely agree. But beyond just the twists, there were specific elements that really stuck with me and made me want to talk about them. Let's start with the infamous attic. For me, the mystery surrounding the attic was compelling, and I was eager to see what secrets it held. However, as the story progressed, I felt like the clues leading up to the attic's revelations were quite heavy-handed. While it's meant to be a shocking discovery, I found myself piecing things together quicker than the narrative intended. The OCR also mentions "attic housemaid," suggesting this is a pivotal element that readers are curious about. It functions as more than just a storage space; it’s a physical manifestation of hidden truths and suppressed identities, and I wished its unveiling had been more subtly built up for maximum impact. Then there's that iconic line: "hair is a privilege." This phrase, which is a popular search query, truly encapsulates the power dynamics and the dehumanization Millie experiences. It’s a stark reminder of the control embedded in her situation, highlighting how even basic personal care can be denied or used as a weapon. For me, this line resonated deeply and was one of the most powerful thematic elements of the book, really driving home the abuse and manipulation. It's not just about hair; it's about dignity and autonomy. Another subtle, yet interesting, detail (and another low-click query) is "the housemaid teeth" or "dental hygiene." This might seem minor, but it often serves as a quick visual cue for status or neglect. In thrillers, such details can sometimes foreshadow deeper issues or reflect a character's internal state. While not explicitly a major plot point, it subtly reinforces the vulnerability and lack of care afforded to the housemaid. The OCR mentioning "dental hygiene" in relation to a collage just highlights how these small details can contribute to the overall atmosphere and character perception. What about the book versus the movie? The original review pointed out significant changes, especially regarding Enzo and Nina. I felt the movie's decision to almost entirely remove Enzo was a huge disservice. His character, as the original author noted, was crucial for some of the less predictable plot twists. In the book, both Nina and Enzo are complex characters, but the film's portrayal of Nina, while powerful thanks to Amanda's acting, sometimes leaned too heavily into the "cuckoo" stereotype, as the original review put it. This made some of the book's cleverer reveals less impactful on screen. The book presented Nina's past and motivations with more nuance, allowing for a better understanding of the psychological games at play. Ultimately, even with some predictable elements, 'The Housemaid' is an undeniably engaging read. While my personal rating for aspects like "tension" and "character development" might align with the original 2.7/5 (as indicated in the OCR), the discussion it sparks about themes like privilege, psychological manipulation, and the reliability of narrators is what makes it memorable. If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller and don't mind anticipating some twists, it's definitely worth checking out, but go in knowing you might just outsmart the author on a few occasions!

The Final Housemaid Book
Ok I read the other three and pre-ordered this one on Amazon. It’s a shortie. How do you all feel about Freida’s books, specifically the Housemaid series? (I haven’t read any of her other books.) But I loved the first one — the other two felt kinda “if you read one, you read them all” to me. #t

Review of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
I decided to read The Housemaid after seeing all the hype around it. At first, it was very hard for me to get into. I felt like Millie’s perspective/ internal monologue got very old very quickly and I found it hard to root for her. However, once the book switches to Nina’s perspective, I could not

The housemaid vibe for sure lol
Ahhhh I don’t know how I feel about this book!! 😅😅 I figured one of the twist (pretty obvious) but then when everything started unfolding it gave me “the housemaid” vibe when she orchestrated the husband and the maid to get together and she be free & than also trying to save her afterwards 🤦🏽‍♀
