You Don’t Have to Know Where You’re Going When You Know Who Is Leading You

John 10:4 reminds me that the sheep follow because they know the Shepherd’s voice, not because they know where He’s taking them.

Maybe the invitation in this season isn’t to figure everything out. Maybe it’s to stay close enough to Jesus that when He leads, you recognize His voice and trust Him enough to follow. 🤎

Like a sheep knows its shepherd’s call, I found that intentional time spent in prayer and reading Scripture deepened my ability to discern God’s leadership. It’s natural to want clarity about every step ahead, but often, I realized that trusting the One who leads is more vital than having all the answers. When I faced significant life decisions or uncertain seasons, the temptation to rely on my own understanding or worry about the unknown was strong. However, recalling John 10:4 reminded me that Jesus goes ahead even when I cannot see the full path. This reassurance helped me take steps forward in faith, even when the destination was unclear. One practical way I cultivated this relationship was by quieting competing voices—fear, past experiences, anxiety—and focusing on God’s Word to recognize His character. Daily routines of reflection and prayer became essential, enabling me to identify what resonated with His voice versus worldly influences. Following Jesus in this way feels less like a predetermined route and more like a journey of responsive trust. Each decision becomes a chance to listen closely, respond obediently, and grow in discernment. If you’re in a season of uncertainty, I encourage you not to rush to figure everything out but to nurture a connection with the Shepherd. Over time, you will likely find His voice becoming unmistakably clear, guiding you step-by-step into the future with courage and peace.
